    Israel: US report on Iran may spark war
    JERUSALEM - Israel's public security minister warned Saturday that a U.S. intelligence report that said Iran is no longer developing nuclear arms could lead to a regional war that would threaten the Jewish state. In his remarks — Israel's harshest criticism yet of the U.S. report — Avi Dichter said the assessment also cast doubt on American intelligence in general, including information about Palestinian security forces' crackdown on militant groups. The Palestinian action is required as part of a U.S.-backed renewal of peace talks with Israel this month.

    Commerce Minister Masood Mir-Kazemi has described his two-day visit to Turkey and meetings with senior Turkish officials as 'helpful, constructive and promising'. Speaking to IRNA on Saturday at the end of his visit, Mir-Kazemi said that during the visit he had emphasized Iran's greater attention to expanding foreign trade.

    (IsraelNN.com) Iranian scientists said they built a supercomputer using 216 microprocessors made by Advanced Micro Devices, despite a ban on the export of U.S. computer equipment to Iran. U.S.-based AMD is second only to Intel in the production of computer processors worldwide. It would be the country's most powerful supercomputer, capable of a billion calculations per second, the scientists said.

    SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) - A strong earthquake shook northern Chile early Sunday in the same region where a temblor killed at least two people last month, but authorities reported no new deaths or serious damage. The U.S. Geological Survey said the magnitude-6.7 quake at 5:09 a.m. (3:09 a.m. EST) was centered 80 miles north-northeast of the port city of Antofagasta.

    BOSTON (AP) - Street and highway crews were at work trying to clear roads across the Great Lakes states into New England on Sunday as a storm blamed for three deaths spread a hazardous mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. The National Weather Service posted winter storm warnings from Michigan and Indiana all the way to Maine. Nearly a foot of snow had already fallen on the Chicago area and meteorologists said accumulations of up to 14 inches were possible in parts of Michigan by late Sunday.

    International peace envoy and former British Prime Minister Tony Blair on Wednesday refused to recognize Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state while addressing a gathering of the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. During the session, right-wing Israeli lawmaker and committee member Limor Livnat asked Blair if he supported Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas' refusal to recognize Israel as a Jewish state.     Turkey planes bomb northern Iraq
    Large numbers of Turkish fighter jets have bombed suspected Kurdish rebel bases in northern Iraq, reports say. Turkish officials said the warplanes had targeted the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), in areas near the border. But officials in northern Iraq said the planes had struck several villages. There were reports that one woman was killed, although this was unconfirmed.
