    Wholesale Prices, Retail Sales Jump
    WASHINGTON (AP) - Wholesale prices and retail sales jumped in November and jobless claims fell last week. Wholesale prices shot up 3.2 percent, the biggest jump in 34 years, propelled by a record rise in gasoline prices. Meanwhile, consumers put aside worries about the weak economy in November to storm into the shopping malls, pushing up retail sales by the largest amount in six months.

    Mystery Beast Kills Animals in S.C.
    BOLIVIA, N.C. (AP) - An unknown predator mauled a pit bull and killed two puppies in Brunswick County, and residents fear it's the same animal that killed three dogs in September. No one has reported ever seeing the animal. The county's animal control agency investigated the animal's tracks, droppings and other clues but couldn't determine what attacked the dogs. Locals call the unknown animal the Beast of Bolivia.

    'Iran tested new missile during summit'
    Iran tested a newly-developed ballistic missile on the day of the Annapolis conference, Channel 10 reported Wednesday. The Ashoura missile has a range of 2,000 kilometers and is capable of reaching Israel, US Army bases in the Middle East and eastern European cities.

    Bush to take 'hands-on' peace talk role
    US President George W. Bush is set to take a more active role in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, his top diplomat said in an interview transcript released Wednesday.     The Quartet's envoy to the Middle East, Tony Blair, met Thursday in Jerusalem with Defense Minister Ehud Barak and Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayad for talks, and the former British premier said he found the two men in tune on plans to repair the Palestinian economy.

    OKLAHOMA CITY - A winter storm that left the nation's midsection coated in ice marched eastward Thursday, while many of the places it already hit continued to shiver as crews worked to restore electricity. In Oklahoma, at least 350,932 homes and businesses still were without power early Thursday, officials said. The storm pummeled the region for three days this week, bringing down power lines with heavy ice and leading to the deaths of 33 people, mostly in traffic accidents.

    1 HELD OVER LAS VEGAS SCHOOL BUS STOP SHOOTING
    LAS VEGAS - An 18-year-old man was arrested in a shooting at a school bus stop that injured six young people, police said. Nicco Tatum was arrested Wednesday in Denver after authorities received a tip that he was headed to Chicago on a bus, police Capt. Kirk Primas said. Tatum is expected to be booked on six counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon and six counts of battery with a deadly weapon.

    European leaders sign landmark treaty
    European Union leaders on Thursday signed a treaty designed to strengthen the bloc’s institutions and put behind them the worst crisis in the 50-year history of European integration. The leaders of all 27 EU member-states except Gordon Brown, Britain’s prime minister, put their names to the treaty at a ceremony in Lisbon’s Jerónimos monastery.

    MOSCOW, December 13 (RIA Novosti) - Trade between Russia and Iran more than doubled in January-September 2007 to $2.2 billion, the Russian co-chairman of the bilateral inter-governmental commission said on Thursday. Sergei Kiriyenko, who was yesterday appointed by the Russian president to head state-controlled nuclear power corporation Rosatom, and Iran's Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki chaired on Thursday a session of the inter-governmental commission.

    Tropical Storm Olga kills at least eight in Caribbean
    Tropical Storm Olga, a rare December cyclone, left at least eight people dead in the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico on Wednesday as pounding rains triggered major floods and landslides. In the Dominican Republic, rescuers found numerous people clinging to trees or perched on their rooftops as floodwaters rose, according to the governor of Santiago province, Jose Izquierdo.

    Parents get girl gene ID card
    BEIJING, Dec. 13 -- A two-year-old girl in Yancheng, eastern China's Jiangsu province, on Wednesday became one of a few Chinese people to possess a gene identity card. The Yangtse Evening News reported that the girl was brought by her parents to a local high-tech company, where a card carrying the girl's gene information was presented to the family. The card, about 8 by 5 centimeters big, looks like an ordinary ID card printed with the young girl's photo, name and birth date. Besides that, it has an extra series number which the company claims to have produced based upon the recipient's 16 genetic loci.
