    Gunman Kills 2 in Missionary Center
    ARVADA, Colo. (AP) - Two youths shot in a dormitory at a training center for Christian missionaries Sunday have died, police said. A gunman walked the dormitory in this Denver suburb early Sunday and opened fire, striking at least four people, police said. The condition of the others was not immediately clear.     Israel and the US are heading for a showdown over construction in Jerusalem's Har Homa neighborhood, as US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Friday that building there does not help create confidence in peace negotiations, and Construction and Housing Minister Ze'ev Boim responded that the construction will continue.     Ramon signals Israel will retain Jewish parts of east J'lem
    Vice Premier Haim Ramon signaled on Sunday that Israel intends to hold on to all Jewish neighborhoods in east Jerusalem, including Har Homa, where Israel plans to build 307 new housing units, a plan that has drawn scathing US criticism. Ramon said Israel should make it clear that it intends to turn over Arab neighborhoods of the city to Palestinian control, but would retain Jewish neighborhoods, including those built in east Jerusalem.

    Expert Links Weather-Related Disasters With Climate Change
    Bali, Indonesia (AHN) - A report made by United Kingdom-based relief and development agency Tearfund, released Sunday showed that at least one-third of the world's population had been affected by weather-related disasters which was linked to climate change. The study titled, "Climate of Disaster," adds the number of weather-related disasters would increase unless the international community takes immediate action.

    7.6 QUAKE HITS SOUTH PACIFIC
    A powerful 7.6-magnitude earthquake struck Sunday deep in the South Pacific, the U.S. Geological Survey reported. The Japan Meteorological Agency measured the quake at 7.9. Both agencies said no tsunami warning was issued. "This earthquake is too deep inside the earth to generate a significant tsunami," the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

    BEIJING, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- China and Japan should take the chance to push forward the relations on the track of long-term, healthy and stable development, said a Chinese leader on Saturday afternoon. Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), put forward a five-point proposal to further improve Sino-Japanese relations in a meeting with Nikai Toshihiro, chairman of the General Council of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP).

    LISBON, Portugal, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Leaders of African nations and the European Union set aside their differences on human rights to agree to a pact on trade and democracy. The EU-Africa Strategic Partnership outlines policy in security, economic development and governance, the BBC reported Sunday at the end of the two-day summit in Lisbon, Portugal. EU leaders hope the pact will mute growing Chinese influence in Africa.
