The offensive would not begin for two or three days so as not interfere with ongoing efforts to broker a cease-fire at the United Nations, said one minister in the meeting.

That is awful news Tom! Olmert needs to quit doing decision making by taking the worlds pulse or poll first! Israel needs to stand up for Israel, the world is NOT on her side. I pray that God touch His people and turn their hearts and minds to Him and that He give them the courage and wisdom to finish the battle that has been ongoing from Genesis and finish the Caananites off as commanded!

          Surprise!

Kadima Minister Shimon Peres and Labor Party Minister Ophir Pines-Paz, who abstained from voting, said all diplomatic channels must be exhausted before the war is expanded. Shas's Industry and Trade Minister Eli Yishai also abstained, saying the ground operation should not be widened until air strikes have run their course

I thought I saw on Fox News that they had decided to start the move now. I sure their reporter over there said they had just gotten the word to move out. I could be wrong.

Nasrallah: We agree to deployment of Lebanese army

In a major shift in the Hizbullah position, Nasrallah said the organization was solidly behind a Lebanese government plan to deploy 15,000 soldiers in south Lebanon once a ceasefire is reached and Israel pulls out its forces.

"In the past we used to oppose or not agree on deployment of the army at the borders ... Because we were concerned about the army. ... We agree on deployment of the army, but do not hide our fear for it," Nasrallah said.

It appears that "the fix may be in" and if Lebanon, the arab world and Hez, with the help of France, the UN and EU get their way the Hez will be soon be hosted, protected and aided by the Lebanese Army...?

Actually from what I am reading it seems to be more of a continuing fear by Olmert of a high level of IDF losses...and an unwillingness to send men into battle.....

10 IDF soldiers were reported injured in the battle. They were evacuated to the Rambam Medical Center in Haifa and to the Rebecca Sieff Hospital in Safed for treatment.

CNN is reporting that the IDF has identified Iranian Revolutinary Guards
among those killed today in battle. Israel would be justified if it
struck Iran, as Iran has openly entered the battle.

Troops are now 6 miles into So. Lebanon, the furthest north they have gone to date, and their aim is to reach the Lantani River by Sunday. (Per Jennifer Griffin FoxNews) 15 Soldiers died today, 7 inside one boobytrapped house; this is the highest loss of soldiers in a day since the start of this war. (Yes, they use the word "war" now, notice that?)

Also, many commentators on both Fox and CNN are saying that, even though France and the US seem divided on how to reach a ceasefire, that FINALLY the US is telling Israel that expanded operations and the continued loss of life must stop. I hope they are "exaggerating" the President's comments to use caution with "civilian" casualties. ??

IDF forces entered areas north of Metula Wednesday night and started operating near the south Lebanese village of al-Hiyam, an area from which rockets are being launched at the Galilee panhandle on a daily basis...

IDF officials said that the incursion represented an expansion of the operation near the border, stressing that in the near future the offensive will be widened in other sectors as well.

However, diplomatic sources stated that the current activity did not constitute part of the broadened operation approved by the Security Cabinet Wednesday that may lead the army as deep into Lebanese territory as the Litani River.

General sacked as Israel plans invasion

Julian Borger in Jerusalem, Oliver Burkeman in New York
                                Thursday August 10, 2006
                                The Guardian

Israel dramatically raised the stakes in the Middle East yesterday, approving an invasion of southern Lebanon involving tens of thousands of troops. At the same time, the army commander in charge of the Lebanese offensive was replaced by another general with a more aggressive reputation - a reflection of Israeli impatience about military progress.

The decision by the 12-strong security cabinet left the door open to last-ditch diplomacy at the UN security council, but the diplomats were only given a few days to produce an acceptable compromise.

That seemed as far away as ever yesterday, as the US and France clashed openly over a ceasefire plan that is opposed by Lebanon and other Arab states. Last night Tony Blair and George Bush discussed proposing a small, rapidly deployable UN force to help the Lebanese army re-enter the border zone.

As heated talks continued in New York, hundreds of Israeli reinforcements were arriving at the northern border and crossing into Lebanon from where heavy fighting could be heard last night.

Israel set to invade Lebanon despite lessons of 1982 war

.....one minister present at the meeting was quoted by Haaretz as saying that Mr Olmert would not act on the decision for two or three days to allow a window for the diplomatic process to bear fruit. One senior official said last night that the international community still had a window to halt a wider ground offensive that Israel would ideally prefer not to launch.

.....But the gravity of yesterday's decision * invoking unwelcome memories of the 1982 Lebanon invasion* was underlined by the abstentions of both Mr Peres and the Labour minister Ophir Pines-Paz. Both argued in the cabinet that more room should be allowed for the diplomatic process.

The third minister to abstain, Eli Yishai, from the ultra-orthodox party Shas, did so on the grounds that while it was right to expand the campaign there should be a longer aerial bombing campaign before an intensified ground operation was launched. He said after the meeting: "In my opinion, whole villages should be removed from the air when we have verified information that Katyusha rockets are being fired from there."
