In their usual immutable fashion the global media have just taken to reporting body counts occuring in Lebanon with the presumed notion that they are all innocent civilains killed at the hands of an out-of-control Israel - and not otherwise engaged in transporting or firing rockets, etc...

And of course Lebanon is the Aggrieved innocent party in all this....

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Ehud Olmert at 7:00pm began a live televised address to the nation in light of the state of warfare on Israel’s northern and southern borders. He spoke from the Knesset podium during a plenum session.

“Iran and Syria continue to “use remote control” referring to their authoritative roles in Lebanon.

Reciting portions of the Prayer for the State of Israel, the prime minister expressed his hope that the government ministers would be given the wisdom and strength to guide the nation through this difficult period.

“…we are not conceding and not afraid since our fight is a just one, a fight of every man and nation, a battle for survival.”

The prime minister concluded his almost 30-minmute address by quoting words from Jeremiah the prophet.

The Israel Defense Forces on Monday said it believed Hezbollah guerrillas in Lebanon attempted to fire an Iranian-made missile with a range of 200 km at Israel which malfunctioned and fell onto Lebanese territory.

The falling missile, described as a Zilzal, was the likely source of Lebanese reports that an Israel Defense Forces aircraft had been hit and brought down over Lebanon.

Interesting since many of us have been praying that the evil that men have planned for Israel, that it fall back on their own heads AND was part of what Olmert said in his prayer in the Knesset this morning.

Great find Tom, I was looking for a Hebrew word or OT reference to that. Also, Peres needs to read the transcript from the FM of Lebanon's visit to Washington, DC this past April. I took notes of it as he spoke and he CLEARLY he is not an "innocent partner in Lebanon".

If in fact it was a Zilzal - it was wonderful (and Divine Providence) that it exploded on launch (or as some reports indicate intercepted by the IAF?) - as it carries a warhead of up to 1,000 pounds of high explosive

US leases cruise ship to evacuate its citizens from Lebanon

According to a report by American television station, NBC, the United States leased a Greek cruise ship in order to evacuate American citizens stuck in Lebanon.

According to the report, the ship is anticipated to arrive in Lebanon Tuesday and begin evacuation of some five thousand Americans currently residing in Lebanon. (Yitzhak Ben-Horin, Washington)

I know we owe it to the actual American citizens that are trapped there to find a way to depart - however (like Katrina) this could well be a multi-million $$ taxpayer boon-doggle..?

I am in total agreement on it not being a good idea for Rice to go. IF the US were to send someone it should be a man...sorry girls, guess I am old fashioned but we are also dealing with a cultural issue. I don't think Rice has the proper "perspective" when it comes to Israel either.

AND on the ship we are leasing from Greece, that gives me pause in more way than one.
