Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Larijani in a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Wednesday briefed him on the latest developments in Iran's nuclear issue and the outcome of his talks with European officials.

At the meeting, which was attended by Iran's Ambassador to Damascus Mohammad-Hassan Akhtari the two officials also discussed the current regional issues.

Larijani underlined that the two countries should cooperate to promote tranquility in Iraq and strengthen the country's permanent government headed by Prime Minister Nouri al-Maleki.

Iran's top negotiator also expounded on the regional developments and stressed Iran's support for the resistance of the Palestinian nation and their rights.

The cabinet met in emergency session Wednesday night to approve military actions in the North, amid growing sentiment that the region was sliding toward war and that Hizbullah's morning attack necessitated a dramatic, widespread and painful response.

"I want to make it clear, this morning's events were not a terrorist attack but the action of a sovereign state that attacked Israel for no reason and without provocation," he said.

"It supports terrorism, it is a government that backs terrorism, it is a government that encourages the murderous actions both of terrorists located on its soil and those beyond it. Of course, there will have to be an appropriate preparation in order to deal with the conduct of the Syrian government."

INR = Israeli National Radio

You may get it on archives later but there is still interesting news and conversation on this Jewish Radio station. John Hagee did not say anything significant, prophetic, about the current events. Said there are approx. 40,000,000 Christians that stand for Israel and can be called upon to stand and ask the gov't to defend and stand with Israel. He more talked about the Christians for Jews United, his organization that has pastors from all states that number 3000 who will be going before congress once a year (I believe they go next month for this year) and plead for the US to stand with Israel.

Tom, do you think their being mum so they won't give away the war plans? I am assuming they are going after the terrorist. They will be playing their cards close to their vest. Don't need the news giving anything away like they do here.

Agreed - but I was thinking more of some "reassuring" words from the leaders to the people of Israel - kind of like FDR and the old "fire-side" chat here at the start of what could be a major war....

Tom, you are our resident weapons expert so I have a question: The huge amount of missiles that Hezbollah/PLO has, what is their range and how effective are they?
