    Yep that's a rare thing.

Maybe it won't be so bad if they win the World Cup---but I'm hoping for Italy of the two.. I think France may be having a littl e reality check withte rioting Muzzis in their midst. They may be understanding the position Israel is in?

There is just about a short paragraph that Debka is reporting on this right now:

Thirteen Qassam missiles hit Sderot and environs from Gaza Thursday afternoon

Maybe this has already been posted, but if so, I didn't see it on either of the threads.

Thanks - IMO this highlights a critical issue for Olmert - and one that just might bring down his own gov't - rather than Hamas.

The push by the IDF into northern Gaza (after days of threats, delays and hand-wringing) is meant to stop these increasing rocket attacks....

Thus if that is not sucessful, and they actually increase once again following Israel's eventual pull-back, I can see huge political pressure and anger building towards Olmert and Perez for ineffective actions...

Middle East settlement without political correctness

Middle East settlement without political correctness

According to political correctness, bad negotiations are better than a good war. This humane postulate seems beyond question, and therefore all peace initiatives of intermediaries in the Middle East are praised even if they are practically useless.

Dichter: Israel may release prisoners if Shalit is freed

Hamas: Israel responsible for stalled talks on Shalit

By Amos Harel, Yuval Azoulay, Avi Issacharoff, Aluf Benn and Mijal Grinberg, Haaretz Correspondents
Hamas issued a statement on Friday, directed at the Israeli public and the family of abducted Israel Defense Forces soldier Gilad Shalit, saying that Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's administration shoulders the blame for the stalled negotiations over Shalit's release.

The statement blames Olmert's government for refusing to respond to Hamas' "legitimate demand for the release of prisoners in exchange for Shalit's release."
Hamas reiterated its demand for the release of female prisoners as well as sick and underage prisoners. In the statement, Hamas emphasized Israel's refusal to comply with their demands.

Looks like we may be seeing the beginning of Israel giving in, I wonder
if the dove's in the goverment are pushing this or are they getting some
severe international pressure. My guess is both are happening.

I know it is easy to be an armchair General, and it is easy when it is not your own child being held hostage (I do try to put the shoe on the other foot, but in reality, we are human and just can't do it)...BUT, this is why I feel you can't negotiate with these animals, they don't see things the way "normal" people do:

Hamas declared that Shalit is being held in humane conditions, as commanded by the Muslim religion. Hamas asked how is it possible that Israel agreed to the exchange of prisoners for captured Israeli citizens in the past, specifically in exchange for Elhanan Tannenbaum, but refuses to do so now. "Was Tannenbaum's life more valuable than Gilad Shalit's," Hamas asked in the statement.

That statement clearly shows, that rewarding and dealing with these people, encourages them to do it again and again.

                  www.haaretz.com

This appears to be a "third" movement of IDF forces into Gaza?

Initially it was in the far south of Gaza at the abandoned airport - then northern Gaza - now movement at the Karni crossing which is more or less in the middle and south of Gaza City

The area were Israeli's were forced to leave is Gush Katif, did you know that this Hebrew word means "Harvest Bell" in English? That area was used by Israel for security as it prevented heavy bombardment of long-range Katyusha rockets, on places such as Sderot and Ashkelon. It was a strategic asset to protect Israel from invasion by Egypt. There were 6000 rockets or kassams launched over Gush Katif in 38 years....didn't the news recently say that over 1000 have been launched just recently???

Here is another map...I don't see Karni listed on it, where abouts are the troups now Tom, can you spot it on this map?

                    http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/middl...strip_1999.jpg

Correction: Towards the top of this map...far north...to the right of "Gaza"...it is spelled Qarni Crossing.

Tom posted the above 2 days ago, this was at the very northern edge of the Gaza Strip, they then did air strikes in Gaza and also fired from Navy ships onto Gaza Beach and did air strikes in Bayt Lahiyah. Looks like they are sweeping the Gaza strip from the south and the north, maybe encircling the enemy into the middle?

Some 15 tanks entered the Strip through the Karni border crossing in what the army said was a search for tunnels used by militants.

The armor corps and troops from the Givati infantry brigade reached the outskirts of Sajaiyeh and engaged in fierce fighting with local militants.

Yeah, I agree, except they have it backwards. Look at the facts:

                            The Bad Guise:
                            Always kill without warning
                            Prefer killing to other options
                            Prefers civilians
Demand part of someone elses land
Only call for a truce when they are low on ordinance

                            Israel:
                            Warns people to stop
                            Tries to talk peace
                            Prefers not to hit civilians
Is willing to share Israel's land
Is willing to have a truce anytime the other side actually is looking for peace

The army said the forces were sent to the area to search for tunnels being dug by militants for possible attacks on soldiers.

                                Israel rejects Palestinian ceasefire call
                                8 minutes ago

Israel has rejected a Hamas appeal for a ceasefire as Israeli forces pursued their Gaza campaign to free a captured soldier and end militant rocket fire, killing four Palestinians.

Israel flatly rejected a call by prime minister Ismail Haniya for a ceasefire and a "return to a situation of calm on the basis of a halt to all military operations by both sides."

"We do not hold negotiations with terrorists. They must first return the kidnapped soldier unharmed and cease their fire," an official in Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's office told AFP Saturday.

"We will decide on our next moves according to the steps taken by the Palestinian government," he said, asking not to be named.
