Lets pray on that . The weapons of our warfare are mighty to the bringing down of strongholds. May the will of the Lord be done. He is Mighty and the Victory is His we stand in the gap and pray and watch and pray. Blessed be the God of Israel . The angel of the LORD encampeth around those who fear Him.

If I missed it and this was posted..sorry

Militants say will kill abducted settler if IDF doesn't end Gaza raid

A Palestinian militant group on Wednesday threatened to kill a Jewish settler it said it had abducted if Israel doesn't stop its raid on the Gaza Strip, which began in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

The Popular Resistance Committees said in a statement that "we are running out of patience."

The Gaza raid is aimed at putting pressure on the Palestinians in an effort to win the release of Corporal Gilad Shalit, who was abducted by militants in an attack on an IDF post on the Israel-Gaza border on Monday.

GAZA (Reuters) - Israeli tanks backed by helicopter gunships and artillery drove into the Gaza Strip before dawn on Wednesday, stepping up pressure on Palestinians to release a kidnapped soldier.

To the sound of heavy machinegun fire, armored vehicles entered Gaza near the southern town of Rafah less than a year after Israel pulled thousands of soldiers and settlers from the territory following 38 years of occupation.

Led by bulldozers to clear boobytrap bombs, tanks and armored vehicles with blazing lights deployed near the disused international airport just inside the Gaza border.

A leader of Hamas, the governing Palestinian Islamist group, exhorted its fighters to confront the Israelis.

"Fight your enemies, who came to their deaths. Grab your rifles and resist," Nizar Rayan said in a radio message.

Troops take control of airport, open areas east of Rafah

IDF tanks and troops rolled into southern Gaza before dawn Wednesday, encountering little resistance from Palestinians, in a bid to pressure Palestinian militants into releasing an Israel Defense Forces soldier seized Sunday in an attack on a military position near the Gaza border.

Speaking after the launch of the operation, Prime Minister Ehud Olmert warned that Israel would not balk at "extreme action" to retrieve Corporal Gilad Shalit.

The operation, dubbed "Summer Rain," was launched after two days of failed mediation over the release of Shalit. Defense sources told Army Radio on Wednesday morning that the Gaza incursion is the first stage of the operation.

"We won't hesitate to carry out extreme action to bring Gilad back to his family," Olmert said.

"All the military activity that started overnight will continue in the coming days," Olmert said. "We do not intend to reoccupy Gaza. We do not intend to stay there. We have one objective, and that is to bring Gilat home," he said.

Certainly it's easy to be an armchair general, however Olmert's apparent "plan" just to have the IDF come in and camp-out in open spaces within Gaza in hopes that the terrorists will somehow feel pressured into turning over now two hostages seems rather weak and meaningless to me...?

ANALYSIS: Gaza incursion aimed at surrounding abductors

By Avi Issacharoff and Amos Harel, Haaretz Correspondents

As things appeared Tuesday night, Israel was moving to stage two in the affair of the abducted soldier, Gilad Shalit. The efforts to secure Shalit's release through negotiations are close to exhaustion; and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who over the past two days has blocked the moves recommended by Chief of Staff Dan Halutz, is now about to approve them, and Israel will begin a military operation in the Gaza Strip.
Two brigade-level combat teams are deployed along the Gaza border in preparation for a ground offensive, with the objective being not the immediate rescue of the soldier, but to placing of pressure on the Palestinians with the slim hope of forcing the kidnappers to make concessions.

The operation will focus initially on open areas in the Strip, with the idea being to gradually apply more and more pressure with minimum risk to Shalit's life. At the same time, the operation would also make it more difficult for the kidnappers to smuggle Shalit across the border into Egypt, and from there to Sudan perhaps.

According to military officials, if the initial IDF move proves unsuccessful and does not bring about any change in the situation, the Palestinians will at least be aware of the price they will have to pay

Big mistake IMO - if you want to win a battle / war you need to heed the advise of trained senior military professionals - not play incremental dovish games with the lives of so many IDF ......

                      13:24 Jun 28, '06 / 2 Tammuz 5766

(IsraelNN.com) The terrorist organization reportedly holding Eliyahu Asheri threatened that he would be "butchered in front of TV cameras” if Israel does not stop its operation in Gaza.

"I am announcing for the first time that the kidnapped Zionist Israel is searching for is the same settler who is being held by us. He is aged 18-and-a-half... and is a soldier in a pre-military academy," said Abu Abir, the spokesman for the Palestinian Resistance Committees, which claims to be holding Asheri.

The claim is being taken very seriously by security forces because Asheri's middle name, Pinchas, had not been made public.

The PRC also said that no more information about Asheri would be given without receiving something in return.

Rapid Dominance is a military doctrine that has as its main principles "overwhelming decisive force," "dominant battlefield awareness," "dominant maneuvers," and "spectacular displays of power" .... as a means of destroying an adversary's will to fight and adversely affecting the psychology and the will of the enemy to resist

I long for the time when Israel will quit playing politics and just flex their muscle...of course, they aren't aware that their God, Jehovah, will be there in the battle with them.

Olmert: Israel willing to use ‘extreme action’ to bring abducted soldier back

JERUSALEM - Palestinians dug in behind walls and embankments in the southern Gaza Strip on Wednesday after Israel sent in troops and tanks, and bombarded bridges and a power station to pressure militants to release a captured soldier.

At mid-afternoon, warplanes fired missiles at open fields in northern Gaza in an effort to prevent Palestinians from launching rockets from the area, the military said. Separately, Israel attacked a rocket-making factory in southern Gaza.

                            No casualties were reported.
