  • Re: Write your state Sen. & Reps to stand WITH ISRAEL

Earlier reports had stated that Olmert/Peretz halted the next phase due Egypts request... 19:00 was the hour on that Haaert article, now this one an hour later, anyone know if things are a hold or go?

Peretz: Operation Summer Rains Phase III is a ‘Go’
    20:15 Jun 29, '06 / 3 Tammuz 5766

(IsraelNN.com) Defense Minister Amir Peretz gave IDF forces the go-ahead to proceed with Phase III of Operation Summer Rains, aimed at rescuing an IDF soldier being held hostage by terrorists and stopping the rocket attacks on Israel.

The approval came after masked terrorists succeeded in breaching the border between Gaza and Egypt, through the Brazil neighborhood of Rafah. The gunmen escaped into Sinai through a four-meter hole they blasted in the security fence.

Peretz also ordered the IDF to keep tabs on the humanitarian situation in Gaza while carrying out the incursion.

    • Photo Essay-Thousands show up for Eliyahu's funeral

      Photo Essay: Funeral of Murdered 18-Year-Old Eliyahu Asheri 18:59 Jun 29, '06 / 3 Tammuz 5766

Thousands of people, including both chief rabbis and other notables, attended the funeral of Eliyahu Asheri, kidnapped and murdered by Palestinian terrorists. Arutz-7 brings photos from the funeral.

...Rabbi Druckman said at the funeral that sometimes funerals are like sunsets, but that Eliyahu's passing is like the sun going dark at noontime. "This is not just a private funeral, but one belonging to all of Israel," he said. "His murderers intended to kill any one of us and all of us."

The IDF did not say whether the assault rifles which the Olmert government and the United States transferred to Abu Mazen earlier this month were used at any point in the kidnapping or murder. WorldNetDaily reported in the name of "sources close to the Al Aqsa Brigades" that the guns had been used in two separate shooting attacks against Israelis within days of the transfer.

          • IDF Air-Strikes in Gaza, Kassams Hit Sderot

            IDF Air-Strikes in Gaza, Kassams Hit Sderot 14:41 Jun 29, '06 / 3 Tammuz 5766
            by Hillel Fendel
            http://www.arutzsheva.org/news.php3?id=106284

Two Kassam rockets fired from northern Gaza hit Sderot late this morning - two people were injured and were treated for shock - while Israel attacks Hamas targets in Gaza.

Israel Navy ships fired artillery at Kassam-launching areas in northern Gaza during the night. The IDF is thus waging a 2-front war in Gaza, trying to both find kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, and silence the Kassam-firing terrorists.

(See, they've been firing these rockets on Israel all the time, and Israel has at least for now, had enuf again.)

Thanks for the article. This stuck out:

"It is not a government, it is an organisation of killers with a leader in Damascus," charged Israeli Infrastructure Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, referring to Syrian-based Hamas political supremo Khaled Meshaal.

..Syrian Prime Minister Mohammed Naji Otri said his country was ready to defend itself against Israel and expressed "surprise at the silence of the international community toward all these Israeli acts and daily aggressions."

Full text of the "Middle East Road Map" to Peace.....not very long but shows what men can put together on paper does not always work in real life ! The entire peace for Israel and the Palentinians was to have been completed by 2005--ha.

I have been off-line all day and just now catching up with events - Reuters is reporting the following as of 30 minutes ago - I did not see it posted yet on the thread...

Iran calls for UN meeting on Gaza; border change
                        29 Jun 2006 18:49:36 GMT

                        http://www.alertnet.org/thenews/newsdesk/N29262675.htm

UNITED NATIONS, June 29 (Reuters) - Iran's foreign minister on Thursday called for an emergency U.N. Security Council meeting on Israel's offensive into Gaza Strip and for the resurrection of old Palestinian borders to solve the conflict.

"The Zionist regime is the source of the terrorism and its brutal acts and processes against the Palestinian people, these innocent people," Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki told a news conference.

"The Security Council must deal with this issue, which is definitely the biggest threat against peace and international security," Mottaki said. He said he wrote Secretary-General Kofi Annan requesting an "immediate" council session.

Mottaki, at the United Nations for a conference on small arms, referred to Israel only as the "Zionist entity," a phrase no longer used in U.N. speeches except by Iran and Libya.

The group of Arab nations at the world body are also expected to request a Security Council meeting on Gaza.

And Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asked the United Nations to intervene to secure the immediate release of Hamas officials arrested by Israel, a day after the Israeli military pushed into Gaza to free an abducted Israeli soldier.

Mottaki said the only way the Middle East conflict could be resolved was a return to the old borders of Palestine after which Christians and Jews could vote for a government.

"All the Palestinian refugees must return to their homeland and then Muslims, Christian and Jews must select their own popular government" in a referendum among "the original residents of Palestine," he said.

He did not say if he was referring to the whole of mandated Palestine, which until 1921 included what is now Jordan, or only Israel's post-World War II border.

Yes this group of "super-doves" from both sides (Israel and Pallys) have been at this sort of "independent agreement" for a very long time - not too sure that it will ever really go anywhere on a serious level - but certainly it adds weight to the growing global mandate that a comprehensive ME "peace" be made to happen - and soon.

Receiving the authors of the Geneva Initiative, Javier Solana emphasised in substance that the initiative will not replace the Quartet's Road Map but is perfectly compatible with it. He believes the initiative, drafted by former Israeli Justice Minister Yossi Beilin and former Palestinian Information Minister Yasser Abed Rabbo, may help the international community find a solution to emerge from the current impasse facing the Middle East peace process. The authors of the Geneva Initiative thanked the High Representative for his encouragement and lauded his efforts "in helping since the outset and never giving in to pessimism,...

As he does the much tattered road-map, and probably the Arab plan as well ?

There is no lack of ME peace plans - especially when you throw into the mix all the EU 7-year plans, etc due to start in 2007 -

...it's only a question of which one will become the basis of any official acceptance and "confirmed by the many"....?
