here's the latest on the work of general Jones in the area...... we're getting close folks!

    http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=121805

Regarding international forces, one Jordanian security source said there are "very serious talks about bringing international forces to the borders between the West Bank and Israel, especially the Jordan Valley, where the Israelis would have security guarantees from an international force working in collaboration with the Palestinians."

Officially, White House spokesman Mike Hammer said that in his consultations, Jones "will discuss the full range of regional challenges and opportunities at this critical time in the Middle East."

To go along with the international troops in the above post.......

After meeting with the US special envoy to the area, George Mitchell, and with the "Paris Group", on 12 January in Brussels, Moratinos stated that there is a "general mobilisation" of the international community towards relaunching the peace negotiations between Israelis and Palestinians.

All this has to happen for the Mediterranean Union to move forward as planned next month

Jordanian ambassador named Mediterranean Union chief

(BRUSSELS) - Representatives from EU and Mediterranean basin nations on Tuesday backed Jordan's Ahmad Massaadeh to be new head of the Mediterranean Union project, which had stalled amid infighting.

"When his name was proposed, everyone applauded," a diplomat involved in a meeting in Brussels on the nomination told AFP. The move has to be officially endorsed by foreign ministers in two to three weeks.

"There's unlikely to be any problem," another official said.

Massaadeh, the new secretary general of the Union for the Mediterranean (UPM), will be based in Barcelona and have Israeli, Palestinian, Turkish and Arab League deputies.

Russia's proposal for a new European security treaty is "timely," visiting Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said on Tuesday.

"This is a timely initiative," Moratinos, whose country holds the EU rotating presidency, told a news conference after talks with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov.

The implementation of the proposal will be in line with Europe's interests, he said, adding that dialogues should be conducted within the framework of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and other organizations.

"NATO's new strategic concept manifests considerable interest toward this initiative and toward consolidation of the Russia-NATO Council's activities," said the foreign minister.

Lavrov said Russia appreciates Spain's interest in the initiative.

              Israel: Global NATO’s 29th Member

              http://www.globalresearch.ca/index.p...t=va&aid=17010

On January 11 Haaretz wrote that “The U.S. Army will double the value of emergency military equipment it stockpiles on Israeli soil, and Israel will be allowed to use the U.S. ordnance in the event of a military emergency….” Citing the U.S.-based Defense News, the Israeli newspaper added, “an agreement reached between Washington and Jerusalem last month will bring the value of the military gear to $800 million.

“This is the final phase of a process that began over a year ago to determine the type and amount of U.S. weapons and ammunition to be stored in Israel, part of an overarching American effort to stockpile weapons in areas in which its army may need to operate while allowing American allies to make use of the ordnance in emergencies.”

It also revealed that “The deal allows Israel access to a wider spectrum of military ordnance, and the U.S. [is] considering which forms of military supplies would be added to stores in Israel. Missiles, armored vehicles, aerial ammunition and artillery ordnance are already stockpiled in the country.” [76]

The U.S., Israel and NATO are preparing for momentous events in the Middle East. They will not be peaceful ones.

CNAV: WOW!!! you have posted an important article, outlining the Israel NATO connection in great detail. Thanks!!

quote:"New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman, who wrote two articles as far back as 2001 urging NATO to take over the Palestinian Gaza Strip and West Bank, in 2003 advocated that not only Israel but Egypt and (post-invasion) Iraq be welcomed as NATO member states. Incidentally, Friedman’s call for NATO to subjugate Palestine was echoed in differing degrees by James Jones when he was U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Security and by Zbigniew Brzezinski and Brent Scowcroft in 2008. The Jerusalem Post wrote early in that year about Jones, previously supreme commander of NATO and now the Obama administration’s National Security Adviser, that “The United States is reviewing the feasibility of deploying a NATO force in the West Bank as a way to ease IDF security concerns….The plan, which is being spearheaded by US Special Envoy to the region Gen. James Jones, is being floated among European countries, which could be asked to contribute troops to a West Bank
                multinational force. [47]

Another news source described the plan in franker terms: “James Jones, a former Marine Corps general and NATO military commander from 2003-2005, has been assigned the task of preparing a plan to take over the military occupation of the Occupied Territories of Palestine on behalf of Israel’s security interests.

It's been so long I have almost forgotten. Which mountains of Israel will Gog, etc. invade or send a peacekeeping force to? Is this Bashan, Mount Ephraim, all of them or what?

Happy Birthday Ezekiel 36 thread. It all started 5 years ago today!

Lay It To Heart: In Israel there is a long mountain ridge that starts up in the Galilee and travels the length of Israel, petering out south of Hebron near BeerSheva. There is a break in the north where the Jezreel valley connects with the Jordan valley to the east. Almost all of this mountain ridge system is located inside the area known currently as the West Bank, but in Biblical times as Judea and Samaria. It does include Mount Ebal and Gerizim near present Nablus (ancient Shechem) but not Bashan which is on the east side of the Jordan Valley in what is now the Golan Heights. If Israel gives up the West Bank they have effectively given away the "Mountains of Israel" Hope this helps.

So looking back then, does this mean the West Bank cannot be given up because the mountains would be gone?

LITH: If you read some of the early postings on the Ezekiel 36 thread part I you will notice that this very topic was discussed. I for one mentioned my belief that if the West bank became a PA state without Jews it would be very problematic for further prophecy to be fulfilled since the Mountains of Israel mentioned in Ezekiel chapter 36 would in fact now be the Mountains of Abbas/Fatah/Hamas etc. Indeed the early verses of that chapter speak to enemies gloating over possession of these Mountains. However God says to the mountains in Israel that His people will be restored there and not uprooted. Brace yourself for a very interesting year 2010!

Netanyahu Digs In on Gush Etzion with Tree Planting

                            by Tzvi Ben Gedalyahu

(IsraelNN.com) Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu planted a tree in Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem, Sunday afternoon, a symbolic move that firmly dug into place a message to the United States that large centers of Jewish population in Judea and Samaria will remain part of the State of Israel.

The ceremony took place several hours after the Prime Minister met with U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell, whose efforts to bridge the deep gaps between Israel and the PA have failed, leaving American officials publicly pessimistic for the first time in the 19 years since it pressured then-Prime Minister Yitzchak Shamir to debate Yasser Arafat in Madrid.

"Today's tree planting reinforces this international position,” the Prime Minister said. “Our message is clear. This [tree planting] is significant for making it clear that Gush Etzion is inseparable from the State of Israel forever. This is the first stop, and from here we will plant in Maaleh Adumin and Ariel.” The tree planting was staged several days before Jews celebrate Tu B'Shvat, the “New Year for Trees," which falls on this year on the Sabbath when planting is forbidden.

He added that Israel also will build in these areas, where he has clamped a 10-month temporary building freeze on new construction of Jews in a goodwill gesture to the Obama administration’s attempts to coax the PA to resume talks with Israel. PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas has rejected American overtures and insists that Israel answer U.S. President Barack Obama’s call last year for a total and permanent freeze on Jewish building in eastern Jerusalem as well as in Judea and Samaria.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said at the tree planting ceremony, “There is a national consensus regarding this issue in Israel, and this recognition is slowly permeating the international arena.”.

The PA ridiculed Prime Minister Netanyahu’s tree planting Sunday as an “unacceptable act that destroys all the efforts being exerted by Senator Mitchell.”

HSB: here is the problem folks. israel will get to keep Gush etzion, Maaleh Adumin and Ariel anyway!!! Bibi only went to the areas they will keep! This is not a particularly good sign...it what is NOT mentioned that concerns me!

                              Hmm
I found JP's wording interesting as well
Government sources, while not willing to say that the prime minister's selection of the locales to plant trees was meant as a political message, added that it was clear he did not think Israel could return to the pre-1967 lines, because he did not think they were defensible.

Likewise, Netanyahu was planting trees in areas he believed would always stay within the state, and which were very much part of the national consensus

I'll wait a few days before moving this up to the History forum.

Thanks again to all of the contributors ... this is, by far, the most read subject on all of Millennium Weekend Ministries pages.
