    JERUSALEM

Acting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Tuesday that Israel plans to separate from most of the Palestinians in the West Bank and this would require withdrawing from some of the territory.

It was the first time Olmert, who took over from ailing Ariel Sharon a month ago, has spelled out his thinking for future policy if he wins March 28 elections. The Kadima Party he inherited from Sharon, who is comatose after a stroke, is far ahead in the polls.

"We will disengage from most of the Palestinian population that lives in Judea and Samaria," Olmert told Israel's Channel 2 TV, using the biblical names for the West Bank. "That will obligate us to leave territories under Israeli control today."

Under questioning, Olmert listed West Bank four areas Israel would keep under his vision: Maaleh Adumim, a settlement of 30,000 next to Jerusalem; Gush Etzion, a bloc of settlements south of Jerusalem; Ariel, a settlement of 18,000 deep in the West Bank; and the Jordan River valley.

Olmert did not mention the string of small settlements in the Jordan valley. Instead, he said, "It is impossible to abandon control of the eastern border of Israel."

      HSB -

I saw a little piece about Israel pulling out of much of the west bank territory on the news this afternoon - and of course I thought of you.

This is going to get VERY interesting before long.

Olmert: We must separate from Palestinians, draw final borders

By Aluf Benn and Lilach Weissman, Haaretz Correspondents and The Associated Press

In his first interview since becoming Acting Prime Minister, Ehud Olmert on Tuesday revealed the core of his political agenda as the country's leader, stressing that Israel must separate itself from the Palestinians within an agreement that would draw its permanent borders.

Speaking with Nissim Mishal on Channel 2 TV, Olmert said "reality today obliges us to separate ourselves from the Palestinians and to remodel the borders of the State of Israel and this is what I will do after the elections."

When asked what concessions Israel would be prepared to make, Olmert said "we will separate from the majority of the Palestinian population living in the West Bank. This will force us to evacuate territories currently held by the State of Israel."

"We will hold on to the major settlement blocs (in the West Bank). We will keep Jerusalem united," he said.

But Mishal did not relent and asked for details on the shape of Israel's future borders.

In response Olmert said "Ma'aleh Adumim, Gush Etzion and Ariel will remain part of the State of Israel."

"Control over Israel's eastern border cannot be renounced," he said in relation to Jordan Valley settlements.

The interview was the clearest indication to date of how he plans to draw Israel's final borders, defining the central issue for Olmert's Kadima Party as it heads into the March 28 elections that polls indicate it will win handily.

In response, Palestinian Authority minister Ghassan al-Khatib told Reuters: "The Israeli leadership can ensure progress towards peace and security only by departing from Sharon's policies of settlement expansion and unilateralism."

Separately, Defense Minister Shaul Mofaz was quoted Tuesday as saying that Israel would establish its final borders, with or without a negotiated deal, within the next two years.

Gideon Sa'ar, the chairman of the Likud election campaign, said in response Tuesday that Olmert's statements were misleading.

"Kadima leaders' statements on their alleged intention to keep the Jordan Valley are an attempt to mislead the public... The commitment to keep the Jordan Valley is not included in Kadima's platform."

"Olmert has objected to the security fence's eastern route, which was supposed to keep the Jordan Valley, and [Foreign Minister Tzipi] Livni has spoken about a security fence that would serve as Israel's border. Kadima is trying to blur its intention to withdraw to the pre-1967 border with slight border adjustments, in order to attract voters," Sa'ar said.

The first time an Israeli leader gets down to specifics
Asked by Army Radio what the highlights of the interview were, political affairs reporter Nissim Mishal said it was the first time any Israeli leader gave such specific details on what Israel would keep.

Mishal said Olmert specified that he intended to hold on to the three major West Bank settlement blocs - Ariel, Gush Etzion and Ma'aleh Adumim - in addition to the Jordan Valley.

"He talked about Israel having to maintain a Jewish majority in the state of Israel, meaning that we have to create a new border, what is called final borders," Mishal said.

"He knows that we can't negotiate with Hamas. So the only conclusion that can be derived from this is that in order to reach final borders, Israel will have to carry out additional [unilateral] withdrawals."

At odds with head of Shin Bet
In recent public appearances, Olmert has said that while Israel prefers a negotiated final peace deal with the Palestinians, that wasn't the only option.

This stance put him at odds with the head of Israel's Shin Bet security service, Yuval Diskin, who opposes further unilateral actions unless the Palestinians can prove they can take control of the evacuated territory.

"The government can decide whatever it wants," Diskin told Jewish seminary students at a hardline Jewish settlement in the West Bank. "As far as security is concerned, I am against transferring the territories to the Palestinians, including territories that were under their control, unless we are confident that there is someone on the Palestinian side to take control in that area."

Diskin's remarks, widely broadcast Tuesday, were made to a closed forum a month ago.

Judy Ann: good post! here is another interesting tidbit. As we all suspected, the unilateral evacuation of Gaza without any peace settlement has been viewed by the militants as a WIN for their program of terror. In fact it is! If there had not been the long simmering terror strikes (kassams, suicide bombers) Israel would not have left the area. This does not bode well for the future for any Jews left on the wrong side of the wall
PS I am surprised that Olmert could even keep a straight face pretending he could leave the West Bank for a PA state but still hold on to the Jordan valley. Kiss those settlements goodby as well folks.

Hamas: Terrorism Brings About Israeli Retreat

            By Ezra HaLevi

            http://arutzsheva.com/news.php3?id=98189

The ruling Hamas terror group has produced a video crediting its terror attacks as the policy that successfully led to the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and will bring about further withdrawals.

In the video, translated by Palestinian Media Watch, images of Jews being forcibly removed by Israeli troops from Gaza’s Jewish communities are shown, as well as the destruction of the towns – with the following lyrics sung in the background:

            “The invaders fled [Gaza]
The army of the Jews was defeated
The home and the homeland is returning through [Palestinian] blood
Not through negotiations, surrender, or promises
Allah the Great, be pleased by the sound of thunder!
We will never accept the Judaization of the Land of Heaven We will never accept the enemies in the land of our fathers...
            The invaders fled [Gaza]
The army of the Jews was defeated
The home and the homeland is returning through [Palestinian] blood
Not through negotiations, surrender, or promises...
Let the enemies leave the entire land!
And take their holy books, which are all black!
Our flag was raised and spread out, O Jihad...!
            The invaders fled [Gaza]
The army of the Jews was defeated
The home and the homeland is returning through blood”[Hamas website, February 2006]

The words, “rejecting negotiations,” are sung over famous images of political agreements being signed by Shimon Peres and Ariel Sharon with various Arab leaders.

As the words "homeland is returning" are sung, an image of the Israeli city of Haifa is displayed, stressing that Hamas sees all of Israel as the "homeland," to be returned to “through blood.”

The words, "Let the enemies leave the entire land! And take their holy books which are all black," are sung while images of Jews praying are shown.

“The clear message to the Palestinian viewer is that the Gaza withdrawal is both the defeat of Israel through terror, and a precedent for the future,” said Palestinian Media Watch Director Itamar Marcus.

In addition to the Hamas video, the perception that the Disengagement vindicated the murder of Israeli civilians in terrorist attacks was echoed in an article in Tuesday’s PA-sponsored Al-Hayat Al Jadida newspaper:
"The smashing victory of the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement [Hamas] in the PLC elections . . . confirms that this people believes only in the option of resistance as a single way for the liberation of Palestine from the Zionist colonialism...
"What was liberated from the land of Palestine in Gaza was done only through the heroes and the jihad warriors, not through futile negotiations for peace and nor by head bowing..."

At least the Israelis will be voting on a course of action in their up coming March elections with their eyes open. They will get more than they bargained for. To me, its surprising that Omert is ahead of Netanyahu in the polls?!!!

The Israelis should know that withdrawing is only seen as weakness in the eyes of the wicked. They will not get their cherished peace. Appeasement just delays and intensifies the inevitable .

Sixty percent of Israelis back further withdrawal: poll
                Fri Feb 10, 2006 5:43 AM ET

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Nearly 60 percent of Israelis support a further unilateral pullout from the occupied West Bank after last year's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, an Israeli newspaper poll showed on Friday.

Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has said Israel would have to give up parts of the occupied West Bank and quickly set a border with the Palestinians.

The survey published in Yedioth Ahronoth said 59 percent believed Israel needed to separate from the majority of Palestinians and would approve a unilateral pullout from land Israel captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

In January a poll by rival Israeli daily Maariv showed 51 percent of Israelis approved a unilateral move from land Palestinians want for a future state.

Olmert, who assumed power from Prime Minister Ariel Sharon after he suffered a stroke on January 4, has said he hopes to pursue peacemaking with the Palestinians.

But that prospect appeared more unlikely after Hamas scored a crushing victory over the long dominant Fatah party in Palestinian parliamentary elections last month.

In the absence of a peace deal, Olmert has said Israel could take unilateral moves.

Olmert, a strong supporter of the Gaza withdrawal completed in September, is the front-runner in Israel's March 28 general election.

The Yedioth poll found that Olmert's centrist Kadima party will win the largest share of seats in Israel's 120-member parliament with 43, gaining one from a previous survey.

A Maariv poll on Friday, in contrast, showed Kadima winning 40 seats, down two from a previous survey.

Yedioth also conducted a poll of Jewish settlers living on occupied land. It showed 93 percent believed Olmert as prime minister would carry out an additional unilateral pullout.

The survey found 72 percent believed a further pullout would be more violent than the Gaza withdrawal. Of that 72 percent, 18 percent warned that settlers could fight eviction by using live weapons.

Dear Jeff: thanks for posting the scenario. Nothing new there that we have not discussed somewhere on this thread. I happen to agree that the Iranian "nuke" is the economic kind not the military bomb. Oil trading in euros makes a whole lot of sense in this day and age (but is also a mega threat to the US dollar) So it will be interesting to see what happens. Will America, the only superpower in the world as we speak, quietly throw in its cards and watch the economic system implode around it OR will it fight back? If the latter than look for a coup in Iran and "peacekeepers" deployed into Hamastan (the new west bank arab state). Time will tell shortly who gets thumped hard. I agree that we all need to prepare for what is coming soon either way! Regards, HSB

                    • Re: Ezekiel 36 and the Mountains of Israel.

I don't expect a coup in Iran to happen. With the right twist, Iran and America will be ready to join forces to "peace keep" Israel out of existence. IAEA's referral last week of Iran to the UN Security council was one of the greatest threats to peace that has ever occurred. There were two major provisions in this referral with a given time frame. The first issue was Iran. They are naturally calling for Iran to be disarmed. This is good. We should anticipate, however, that Iran would not give up without a fight. That fight could turn global. The second issue was the critical one. America, in its wisdom, agreed to an Egyptian rider that would call for complete WMD disarmament in the Mideast including Israel. If Israel were to relinquish its nuclear defense they would be unable to stop the armies of the world from invading. Again, the IAEA referral is calling for a second country to give up what it unwilling to do. This again could start a major war.

The referral on February 4th had a five-week abeyance before the Security Council would initiate its proceedings. Israel said it would wait until March before it considers a military strike. If Israel can annihilate the Natanz nuke plant the issue may be moot when it reaches the UN. Think of the consequences, if Israel attacks the world may switch its focus from Iran to Israel. They would see the Iranian threat gone but the need for peacekeepers in Israel. After all if they expect Israel to disarm they will have to use force to do so and also force to protect them after they are disarm. America would favor this. Iran would also be willing the help disarm Israel. It is foreseeable that America and Iran would end up on the same side, at least for a while.

What went down last on the fourth could be the stimulus for:
                      Israel to attack Iran
The world to call for Israel to disarm
Gog and his friends to come into Israel to see Israel to disarm
A need for a an agreement with many to protect Israel after the skirmish

In a sense, the stage is being set for Gog.

How do we "prepare"? I've been wondering that ever since the Jerry Golden thing. Okay, stock up on food/water but is that really preparing? I have a feeling we're going to undergo some trials - yes. But I think the best preparation we can do is to abolish apathy - get SERIOUS with our walk with our Savior. Then, and only then, can we truly be prepared for anything that comes our way.

My wife and I are reading 2 Chron together and one thing that really struck me about Amaziah did that which was "right in the sight of the Lord" but "not with a perfect heart" (2 Chron 25:1-2). He started off on the right track but what struck me is it sounded like he wasn't really very strong in his walk - and he eventually turned completely away from God.

I believe there is so MUCH in the church today - especially in America...and I have a feeling those of us that are apathetic are going to come to a point of decision in our lives. Many will fall by the wayside - of this I am sure. I only hope and pray I'm one that WILL be prepared...spiritually. Physically would be nice, too, but I really don't know how to physically "prepare" for what is definitely coming - sooner or later.

Andy: you ask the $64,000 question..actually with inflation it is now $64 billion...how does one prepare?

I suggest we get as close to God as possible, through reading the Word and daily prayer life. Then, when the tornado comes whistling through we will be in His Will and know it. That may involve us being taken home to glory (death) or it may mean His miraculous protection. Either way "Blessed be the name of the Lord". As these things begin to unfold, I believe we will be given both faith and boldness to proclaim His Glory. The value of what we are doing here is to share what God is showing each of us today, so that we are not shocked and overwhelmed when these big things happen, and disaster strikes close to us (or even on our own heads) IMHO we have been living in La La Land for many years, enjoying the creature comforts while the ship we are riding is taking on water....

                            Iran, Russia and Ezekiel 2/13/2006

One of the highlights of President Bush's State of the Union speech was his jab at the far Left, reminding them that "hindsight is not wisdom and second guessing was not a strategy."

Nowhere is that truth more evident than when considering our next move in the nuclear stand-off with the mad mullahs of Iran.

Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad responded to Bush's promise to defend Israel by mocking the West, telling a crowd of thousands near Bushehr; "I am telling those fake superpowers that the Iranian nation became independent 27 years ago and ... on the nuclear case, it will resist until fully achieving its rights."

Ahmadinejad's war talk has even started to make the Russians and Chinese nervous.

The Russians realize that they helped let the nuclear genie out of the bottle, but they didn't expect to find themselves joining the effort to try and stuff it back in. The Security Council's five permanent members, including a reluctant Russia and China, have asked the U.N. nuclear watchdog to report Iran to New York "immediately."

The IAEA said in a confidential report last week that Iran had already begun preparing for uranium enrichment. Tehran makes no effort to deny its connection with what it calls "resistance groups" or "liberation movements" like Hezbollah or Hamas.

Ahmadinejad just concluded a meeting in Damascus with leaders of Hezbollah, Palestinian Jihad, Hamas, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine on January 20th.

At that meeting, Ahmadinejad reminded the Muslim world that "continued resistance" is the "only way" to end "the occupation of the holy Islamic lands" by Israel.

In remarks commemorating the 27th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution last week, Ahmadinejad promised Israel 'will be removed.'

"We ask the West to remove what they created sixty years ago and if they do not listen to our recommendations, then the Palestinian nation and other nations will eventually do this for them. . . . Do the removal of Israel before it is too late and save yourself from the fury of regional nations," he thundered.

Ahamdinejad also reportedly said that while giving an address to the UN he underwent a 'mystical experience' that convinced him that the great end-times Islamic war against the infidels was at hand, and that it fell to Ahmadinejad to 'kick things off' if necessary.

(It was probably when Ahmadinejad started seeing halos and getting fuzzy spiritual experiences about starting the Islamic end of the world that Moscow began to have second thoughts about its Iranian nuclear program.)

The Hebrew prophet Ezekiel, writing from his vantage point in history, circa 537 BC, predicted that in the last days, there would be a great war involving not only Islam, but dragging an unwilling Moscow along for the ride, as if God had put 'hooks in its jaws', the prophet said.

Leading the Islamic alliance, according to Ezekiel, is Persia, (modern Iran). Together with the Islamic nations of North Africa and the Mediterranean Middle East, Ezekiel says they will constitute an invasion force that will move against the nation of Israel.

In Ezekiel's day, there had been no nation called 'Israel' for almost two centuries and no sovereign nation called Israel would exist for another 2500 years.

Today, in 2006, Israel exists, as Ezekiel predicted. Iran, [Persia] is Israel's sworn enemy, as Ezekiel predicted. The Islamic world is poised, waiting for an excuse to wipe Israel off the map, as Ahmadinejad is promising to do if Iran obtains nuclear weapons.

Israel, facing the potential of annihilation at the hands of a nuclear Iran, will have to take action to stop the Iranians as a matter of national survival.

PlumBob: great to hear from you. First I need to tell you that my nephew has acquired one of those new fangled laser plumBobs that one puts against the wall and it automatically shows vertical line and horizontal by red laser light. I of course felt like Rip Van PlumBob with my old fashioned "bob" and string..but I don't have to worry about batteries wearing out

On a more serious note notice that Hal L says "Together with the Islamic nations of North Africa and the Mediterranean Middle East, Ezekiel says they will constitute an invasion force that will move against the nation of Israel"

I ask you PB whom is Hal referring to when he says "the Islamic nations of the Mediterranean Middle East"? Is he referring to Egypt? Syria? Lebanon? even Jordan? If so why does he not say so (and then add that NONE OF THESE are included with the Gog invasion according to Ezekiel's prophecy. Methinks there are a few holes in Hal Lindsay's arguement but it makes good press in the Christian community. Let's watch God thump the Commies and their Muslinm cronies... I still think the "enemy" will turn out to be us!

"Leading the Islamic alliance, according to Ezekiel, is Persia, (modern Iran)."

Ez 38 does not really say that. I've always wondered who actually leads the invasion, and in the context of the entire chapter, it appears to be Gog.
