France, Turkey and Malaysia will not deploy troops for Lebanon force without Lebanese government guarantees for disarming Hizballah

Looks like this just through a monkey wrench in the plan . . .

And Hez. has reconfirmed just this morning that they will not disarm.... Also this:

BEIRUT As stunned Lebanese returned over broken roads to shattered apartments in the south, it increasingly seems that the beneficiary of the destruction is most likely to be Hezbollah.

A major reason - in addition to its hard-won reputation as the only Arab force that has fought Israel to a standstill - is that it is already dominating the efforts to rebuild with a torrent of money from oil-rich Iran.

Nehme Tohme, a member of Parliament from the anti-Syrian reform bloc and the country's minister for the displaced, said that he had been told by Hezbollah officials that when the shooting stopped, Iran would provide Hezbollah with an "unlimited budget" for reconstruction.

In his victory speech Monday night, the Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah offered money for "decent and suitable furniture" and a year's rent on a house to any Lebanese who lost his home in the monthlong war.

"Completing the victory," he said, "can come with reconstruction

            Nations refuse to disarm Hezbollah
U.S., France, UN and Lebanon put deal in jeopardy

WASHINGTON - The countries tasked with upholding the shaky truce in Lebanon appeared unwilling to force the disarmament of Hezbollah yesterday, a development that threatens to delay the creation of a massive United Nations peacekeeping force and could ultimately set off fresh conflict in the region.

France, the United States, the United Nations and Lebanon itself have all refused to accept responsibility for stripping the Lebanese Shiite militia of their weapons, despite a key element of the UN resolution that calls for the group to give up its firepower and vacate the southern part of the country.

Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah said on Monday that his force will not be pressured into disarming, and he gained key support yesterday from Lebanon's Defence Minister, Elian Murr, who has refused to take up the task of disarmament.

The Lebanese Cabinet agreed to the UN resolution on Saturday, but Mr. Murr explained that his job is not disarmament, but rather to "ensure the security of the [Islamic] Resistance and citizens, to protect the victory of the Resistance."

This way Hezbollah and Iran win the hearts and minds of the public with personal relief while the US gets the bill for the infrastructure. We did have the insurance policy on the bridges, power plants, etc. didn't we? We did promise dollars to rebuild also, right? It's just that our dollars won't be personal.
Hmm They are winning...at least the PR points, for a time..only.

How long before Hassan Nasrallah pops his head out at the wrong moment?

Do you think Israel is waiting for an opportune time to take him out?

I normally like Bolton very much, but this is about as wimpy a statement I've ever heard from him:

U.S.: Syrian, Iranian comments on destroying Israel 'unhelpful'
By Haaretz Service and News Agencies
U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations John Bolton said Wednesday that statements by Syrian President Bashar Assad about Israel were "unhelpful."

Assad was reported to have said Tuesday in Damascus that Israel had suffered a "massive failure" at the hands of the Hezbollah, during the just-ended 34-day war in Lebanon. He also called for getting rid of Israel.

It would not suprise me to see Nasrallah have an accident at anytime.
I am sure the Mosad would love to have a chance at him.

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Israeli aircraft fired several rockets at a target in a Hizbollah stronghold in eastern Lebanon early on Saturday morning, a Lebanese security source said.

It was not immediately clear what the Israeli aircraft were firing at in the village of Bodai.

                              Israeli commandos conduct Lebanon raid

By SAM F. GHATTAS, Associated Press Writer
                              32 minutes ago

Israeli commandos raided a Hezbollah stronghold deep inside Lebanon Saturday, sparking a fierce clash with militants that left one Israeli soldier dead. Lebanon called the raid a "flagrant violation" of the U.N.-brokered cease-fire, while Israel said it was aimed at disrupting arms smuggling from Iran and Syria.

......Lebanese Prime Minister Fuad Saniora called Saturday's commando raid a "flagrant violation" of the cease-fire, and said he would take the issue up with U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan.

.....The Israeli military said such operations would continue until "an effective monitoring unit" was in place to prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its arsenal.

"If the Syrians and Iran continue to arm Hezbollah in violation of the (U.N. cease-fire) resolution, Israel is entitled to act to defend the principle of the arms embargo," Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Mark Regev said. "Once the Lebanese army and the international forces are active ... then such Israeli activity will become superfluous."

Such a bold operation, jeopardizing the cease-fire, suggested Israel was going after a major target near Baalbek — perhaps to rescue two Israeli soldiers snatched by Hezbollah on July 12, or to try to capture a senior guerrilla official to trade for the soldiers.

......The Israeli commandos were dropped by helicopter on a hill outside the village of Boudai west of Baalbek and apparently were seeking a guerrilla target in a nearby school, Lebanese security officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they are not authorized to release information to the media.

Local media said Sheik Mohammed Yazbeck, a senior Hezbollah official in the Bekaa and a member of the Shura council of the group, may have been the target. Yazbeck is a native of Boudai.

Hezbollah TV said the guerrillas foiled the raid. Israel said one of its military officers was killed and two other soldiers were wounded, but the force completed its mission.

Lebanese security officials said three guerrillas were killed and three were wounded, but a Hezbollah spokesman said none of his fighters died.

Hezbollah officials at the scene said the Israeli commandos brought two vehicles with them that they used to drive into Boudai. They identified themselves as the Lebanese army when intercepted by Hezbollah fighters in a field, but the guerrillas grew suspicious and gunfire erupted, according to the officials.

Israeli helicopters fired missiles as the commandos withdrew and flew out of the area an hour later.
