        Hmmmm .....

Not yet an enforceable agreement though Israel has accepted it?

Kofi "threatened" to remove UNIFIL if this Resolution is not implemented and fighting continues.

Kofi wants to be sure that "peace is here to stay" and wants the international community to pitch in and help rebuild poor Lebanon.

Kofi will lose no time taking up the "role assigned to him" in enforcing this resolution.

Tomorrow Kofi will meet parties from both sides and get the exact date that this conflict WILL end.

He is shaming the world for poor Lebanon going through all this, suffer alone, those people deserve full support of the UN and is it just shameful that they have had to endure this and suffer such an impact to their well being.

Blah, blah, blah...4 mos til this ***** is out of office. Wonder if we'll still be here?

It occurs to me that it's not going to be worth anything for Lebanon to agree to any "peace agreement" when it's not Lebanon Israel is fighting.

(taking the discussion from the other thread to this one)

Hezbullah are never going to agree to a cease-fire, not as long as Iran wants them to keep up the pressure and war efforts. IF Iran wants a regional war, they'll just pull their strings to keep the rockets flying - and Israel will be within their right to keep up their offensive, even to step it up as necessary.

Senior officers: Operation to continue as planned

Sources in Jerusalem say no contradiction between UN move, war in field; note ceasefire will anyway wait for multinational force's arrival. On Sunday, Olmert to recommend cabinet accept outline; meanwhile, air strikes continue, IDF prefers for massive ground entry
                        Ronny Sofer

While an agreement on a ceasefire in the Middle East was being formed at the United Nations Security Council, senior Israel Defense Forces officers said that the wide-scale operation – approved by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Defense Minister Amir Peretz in accordance with the cabinet decision – will be launched as planned.

The goal: Arriving at the Litani River, a move which according to the army's estimates will take a week, and another four to six weeks to establish the line and mop up the area.

On Friday night, Lebanese sources reported that two transformers were hit, darkening the Tyre area. It was also reported that an Israeli drone fired missiles into a convoy of refugees fleeing attacks in the southern town of Marjayoun, killing seven and wounding 40.

In total, according to the IDF, more than 120 air strikes were carried out on Friday, including bombings of about 60 buildings and headquarters used by Hizbullah, routes and bridges, three petrol stations and eight rocket launchers.

On the northern border, forces prepared for a massive entry into the field, in accordance with the "green light" received from the political echelon. Officials in Jerusalem claimed that there was no contradiction between the decisions in New York and the expansion of the operation, as also according to the proposed outline, the ceasefire will only come into force upon the arrival of a multinational force, and it will be carried out gradually and in parallel to the IDF's withdrawal from the area.

Israel's attack on convoy a 'mistake'
                          Saturday 12 August 2006, 4:50 Makka Time, 1:50 GMT

Israel has admitted that it was "mistaken" in attacking a convoy of hundreds of cars carrying people fleeing the fighting in southern Lebanon.

At least seven people were killed and 36 wounded when an unmanned Israeli aircraft fired on the convoy of more than 500 vehicles.

The Israeli army confirmed it had carried out an air strike on the convoy, saying it had acted on the mistaken suspicion that Hezbollah guerrillas were smuggling weapons in the vehicles.

"The attack was carried out based on a suspicion. It was found to be incorrect," an army spokeswoman said.

The Israeli army said it had not granted permission for the convoy to travel as it was too dangerous.

The attack was near the Bekaa Valley town of Chtaura, about 50km north of the Litani River below which Israel had warned it may attack any vehicle on the roads.

Have you guys all gotten the strange feeling that Israel's "might and intelligence" is being "supernaturally" handicapped?

Israel is going to be in dire straights, we are told, and that is why she will turn to and cry out to God, do you think this is all part of it?

They have a "worthless shephard" leading them (Olmert the flopping fish), their Defense Minister has no military background and a only a high school diploma...their once "like no other" Intellegence is sorely lacking....their once mighty army was impotent until the reservists with experience under their belts were called in....

It is almost like they got a little too comfortable being the best, depending on their mighty reputation as hinderence enough, that they seem to have slacked off for the last few years and now got caught at a time when they are not at their best. (Sadly, I see the same thing happening with our own military and intellegence.)
