Man arrested at Manchester Airport quizzed on Canada 'terror plot' Wed Jun 7, 11:17 AM ET

A man arrested at Manchester Airport is reportedly being questioned by police about possible links with an alleged terror plot in Canada.

According to the BBC the 21-year-old, believed to be of Pakistani origin, was arrested under the Terrorism Act 2000 on Tuesday.

The man was from Bradford and police are now searching three properties in the northern English city, a spokesman for West Yorkshire police said Wednesday.....

Canadian officials have signalled more arrests are imminent linked to the alleged Al-Qaeda inspired plot to attack high-profile targets in Ontario, the country's largest province.

The 16-year-old, who was not identified, was held in Yorkshire, northern England, after a man aged 21 was detained at Manchester Airport late on Tuesday, a police spokesman said.

"This is a continuation of last night's operation at Manchester Airport," the spokesman said.

ELEANOR HALL: In Canada, it's emerged today that the alleged terrorist plot, in which a suspect is accused of threatening to behead the Canadian Prime Minister may have been linked to Canada's military operations in Afghanistan.

A court in Toronto has heard today that one of the 17 suspects arrested on the weekend wanted to abduct and kill the Canadian Prime Minister if he didn't withdraw the country's 2,500 troops from Afghanistan.

Canada plot: Flight training link

TORONTO, Ontario (Reuters) -- Canadian television reports that one of a group of Toronto-area men now in custody on terror-related charges had enrolled in a flight training program as part of a plan to use aircraft in an attack on Canadian targets.

Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, which cited allegations contained in court documents, said Wednesday Amin Mohamed Durrani, 19, had enrolled in a training program at a Toronto-area college but then withdrew out of fear his activities would draw the attention of authorities.

Durrani is one of 12 men and five youths being held after a weekend raid in and around Toronto.

The 43-year-old Jamal, (ring-leader) a father of three, was active at the Al-Rahman Islamic Center, a storefront mosque attended by at least six of the other suspects in Mississauga, a heavily immigrant suburb of 700,000 just west of Toronto.....

Bukhari recalled one Friday service at the mosque when Jamal took the microphone and asserted that Canadian forces were going to Afghanistan to rape Muslim women.

At another point, Bukhari said he was at the mosque encouraging people to register to vote when Jamal confronted him.

"He came up to me and said this is all forbidden - it is un-Islamic to take part in an election and we don't want to be any part of this society," Bukhari said. "It was so hateful."

I read in the Globe and Mail this morning that Mr. Jamal and Mrs. Jamal (a Cape Bretoner) were married in front of his first wife while she was dying.

I am glad that Islam spurs such compassion, you get remarried in front
of you soon to be late wife and plan terriost attacks. I wish such incidents
would wake people up to what we are facing, but while it may wake up

Not to nit-pick - but only from the "west" in terms of their current choice of locations - i.e. take benefit of the freer western society while concurrently plotting it's destruction and down-fall... while their hearts, minds and spirits remain rooted in 12th century islamic hatred...

Hashmi, bearded and wearing flowing white robes, stood throughout the 10-minute hearing. He was remanded in custody until June 15. Another appearance, possibly by video-link, was scheduled for July 6.

We do have a society that is "afraid to ask" about things, until something happens!
When are we going to learn that like Canada, we need to catch them
BEFORE they do something?
I know we are trying, but I'm all for profiling if it saves a life.
Forget their "feelings" if we "offend" someone.
If we save someone, that's more important IMHO.

Now the USA is wanting to do the passport thing on our free -friendly boarders from time long past . Canada is a home for terrorists they now say in the USA. but they forget that USA is also a home for terrorists. And that the terrorists that actually blew up a major thing Sept 11 were out of the USA---at least in Canada this time , we caught them. I actually think this is a smoke and mirror ruse to keep the camara on Canada and keep it off all the terror cells etc in the USA.

Forget the passport requirement thing that affects our friendly relationship withour US brothers and sisters, do RACIAL /RELIGIOUS AND VISIBLE PROFILING PROFILING --you idIots in the government> I dont much care if innocent Islamics or Arabic people are inconvenienced at the boarder . Their kind has come our our country and messed things up and I for one do not want all of our freedoms and curtailed because our govt's are afraid to call a spade a spade. I'm hoping that even people of MEast descent held up at the boarder will understand it is for their security as well as regular patriots.

We would all be alot more secure if profiling was done as we all know that the majority of these terrorists are islamic and from m. East decent.

See, the problem is that the enemy is figuring this profiling thing out.
So they are not all from the Mid East countries.
I say, let the airport security people use their discretion. If you suspect someone, say "allah" and spit on the ground. If the suspect is a radical muslim, they will tell on themselves really quick.

Actually - a lot of things could work.....

1) After you strike up a conversation, proudly show them your album containing copies of Dutch cartoons...
2) Get name plates with decidely Jewish name for all the ICE agents...alternately, mention now much you love Israel and can't wait until they can rebuild the temple on the mount
3) Have a mock Koran suspended by an electric winch over a mock toilet by each of the ICE checkpoints. Depress the control button to activate and lower the Koran when you have your suspicions
4) After faking a sneeze and feigning looking for cleanex, in desperation, grab a mock Koran that you rip a page out of when you fake having to blow your nose...
5) Talk about how terrible the Holocaust was....

I think you get the idea....
