Well, Ron, there is a war going on in Baghdad--and all of Iraq, still--no matter what the spin meisters want us to think. It is fueled by the so-called "insurgency" (read terrorists imported from Iran and Syria), to undermind the democracy that is trying to be established.

Anyone who seriously thought that we (the US and allies) would be finished with this war quickly, IMHO had their heads in the sand. Ultimately, this is a war to decide if Iraq will live under Islamic law (shiria) or democracy. The last thing the radical Islamists want is another democracy in the Middle East, particularly in a largely Islamic nation.

The key here, MHO, is that the "insurgents" have no hesitancy in killing their own people--they are equal opportunity destroyers and killers. The fruit of a Satanic inspired religion.

      Well Said Gorify Him --

Also while the killings of one muslim group by another are bad - one has to also keep in mind that well prior to any US invasion that Saddam was seeing to it that 100s of thousands of innocents were killed, mained, raped and tortured for opposing his rule.... witness the many mass graves uncovered around Iraq...

Just a comment on the numbers... I must say that posting the names of "those who have given their lives in service" is a real eye-opener. Every week or so, Dub sends me anywhere between seven and fifteen names of the recently deceased service men and women, many in their early twenties. It grieves my heart to think of the weight of sorrow that so many families are experiencing on an ongoing basis, and I wonder when the end will be in sight...

Yet, how many Americans and Canadians kids are killing themselves with drugs, se*x, alchohol/cars and suicide because they have nothing else to live for or believe in?

These young men and women in Iraq are giving their lives for something other than a decadent lifestyle that has no meaning. They are hard working, self-sacrificing people we can and should be proud of. I would be more proud of my child's death in a war-torn country than in an alcohol-induced car smashed into a retaining wall. Who wouldn't be ashamed of that?

I just think we need to keep some things in perspective.

            Sandy,
What you posted is very true.

It pains me to see all of the protests against the war in Iraq, with signs that have the U.S. body count on them, as well as crosses being set up, empty pairs of boots, etc.
As of June 7, 2006. a total of 2,478 servicemen/women (American) have been killed in Iraq since the invasion over three years ago, yet....
During the same time span, (March '03-June '06) 55,045 Americans were killed due to alcohol related car crashes, and another 853,200 were non-fatally injured.
The protests aren't protesting the loss of life, they're protesting against the President and the current administration.

Thanks for putting that in perspective. Either way, in regard to the weight of sorrow the families are experiencing, whether honorable or shameful, my heart is heavy for their loss.

That is absolutely the response we should have for any who suffer the consequences of sin and death, either by their own doing, or someone else's. You and I both know firsthand the sorrow that comes from those consequences.
