Re: Vatican says it has high hopes of better ties with China

Just thought I would post this strange little side note.

Mark Zuckerberg, Pope Francis talk technology and charitable giving

A Vatican statement said Zuckerberg and the pope “spoke about how to use communication technologies to alleviate poverty, encourage a culture of encounter, and help deliver a message of hope, especially to those people who are most disadvantaged.”
The audience was the latest in a series of meetings the pope has held with high-level figures in the tech and IT world in recent months. In January he held separate private audiences with Apple CEO Tim Cook and Eric Schmidt, the executive chair of Google’s parent company, Alphabet. Francis met with Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram, in February.

Tauran’s sound-bite in that session still echoes: The world must uphold “the force of law,” he said, otherwise it will be condemned to suffer “the law of force.”

The reason TTIP and TPP are so important. It will allow the west to set the international laws.

A side note from an article dated May of this year. It seems what he stated back in May could be coming to pass very soon.

Legendary Vatican envoy predicts Francis may visit Russia, China

One of the Vatican’s most legendary and accomplished diplomats, as well as the cardinal who announced the name of the Catholic Church’s new chief shepherd to the world on March 13, 2013, believes Pope Francis could become the first pontiff to visit Russia and China.
Tauran’s sound-bite in that session still echoes: The world must uphold “the force of law,” he said, otherwise it will be condemned to suffer “the law of force.”
He’s still active in moving the ball on the Vatican’s global agenda. Among other things, his office recently made a meeting between Francis and the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar possible.

People had little doubt when it can to Russia as the Vatican had more or less already brought the Orthodox church under it's wing, but China was the challenge. Now it seems even China has moved forward.

So true. It is amazing how clear this has become.

If I had to take a guess??? I would say China was the last place the Vatican needed to bring on side. Now it seems to very close.

Vatican says it has high hopes of better ties with China

The Vatican is hopeful it can improve ties with China after decades of tension, the Roman Catholic Church's highest-ranking diplomat said on Saturday, adding that warmer relations would benefit the whole world.
"There is much hope and expectation that there will be new developments and a new season in relations between the Holy Sea and China," he said in a speech in the northern Italian city of Pordenone, which was released to reporters in the Vatican.

"(This) will benefit not just Catholics in the land of Confucius, but the whole country, which boasts one of the greatest civilisations on the planet," he said.

"Dare I say, it would also be of benefit to an ordered, peaceful and fruitful cohabitation of peoples of all nations in a world, such as ours, which is lacerated by so many tensions and so many conflicts."
