  • Saudi cabinet curbs powers of religious police

    They're getting there...

Saudi Arabia has barred its religious police from pursuing suspects or making arrests, curbing the powers of an institution whose aggressive enforcement of the Islamic kingdom's strict morality rules has drawn criticism from more liberal Saudis.

Very interesting, if this is true.

        Hi Andy

In the category of ..it isn't where they have been, or even so much where they are, but where they are heading.

They have accepted the new order and all it entails. But moving the people in that direction must take time. But even there we are seeing signs the people are changing. They no longer want to compete for who is the most radical. They are shifting into the mode of who can be liberal.

The most logical attitude Satan would want for his rise imvho People are preparing and looking for something else...I would suspect he will eventually rise and promise them what they are looking for.

It's funny in the Bible phrases like "peace then destruction", "unwalled" or "peace peace but they shall have no peace" gives a hint into the desires of man at the time. A sense they really do try. But of course Satan lies as he can't provide the peace they so desire. Only surrender to God can provide that.

But also, as we learn over and over in the Bible, God has limits.

          PS
The other phrase in the Bible..."peace and security"

"Security", we hear the cries constantly in the elections or the news. We even hear the growing cry from the greater middle east. They want peace and security. Something they mistakingly thought radical Islam could give but has shown them only pain and misery.

They are now looking for something or someone else to fill that void. Offer a solution.....

          http://wedg.millenniumweekend.org/fo...fed-up-Syrians

imvho radical Islam was and is just the catalyst Satan used to get all of mankind where he needed, so he could offer his false peace.

          And there is still Damascus...

A report published this week shows that young people in the Arab world want more stability and less religion in their lives
                lol Sounds familiar.

The study, carried out between January 11 and February 22 of this year, offers a snapshot of young Arabs who are worried about the declining world economy and the rise of radical Islam.

But today the OIC in their final communique states....interesting.

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation harshly criticized Iran on Friday, accusing it of "continued support for terrorism" and interference in the internal affairs of regional states including Syria and Yemen.

Leaders from the Muslim world attended a summit in Istanbul this week of the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to discuss issues, including the humanitarian fall-out from Syria's civil war.

"The Conference deplored Iran's interference in the internal affairs of the States of the region and other Member States including Bahrain, Yemen, Syria, and Somalia, and its continued support for terrorism," the OIC said in its final communique from the summit

Muslim nations lambast Iran for supporting terrorism

The final communique came a day after Iran's Rouhani urged summit delegates to avoid sending out divisive messages.

"No message which would fuel division in the Islamic community should come out of the conference," said Rouhani, according to Iranian state television.

Iran calls on U.S., EU to help it access global financial system

Iran on Friday called on the United States and the European Union to help it access the global financial system, including assets that Tehran says were supposed to be unfrozen following its historic nuclear deal with major international powers.

"They need to do whatever is needed to honor their commitments," Iranian central bank Governor Valiollah Seif said at an event on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank spring meetings in Washington.
"In general we are not able to use our frozen funds abroad," Seif said.

                    But in Israel today...

Analysis: The IDF sees rising national-religious influence

“History has chosen us to spearhead the fight against the terrorist Gazan enemy who curses, vilifies and abominates Israel’s God,” Colonel Ofer Winter, the unit’s commanding officer, wrote in the letter to his troops. He ended with a biblical quote promising divine protection for Israel’s warriors on the battlefield.

The letter quickly circulated on social media and from there to the press. Secular Israelis condemned it, saying it broke a decades-old convention that kept religion out of military missions.

Two years on, the letter remains a symbol of a profound shift within Israeli society: the rising power and reach of religious nationalists. The change has set up a battle for the type of country Israel should be, a battle between the country’s liberals and its more religious nationalist camp.

In its early years, Israel’s two main centers of power – the military and the government – were dominated by the secular and mostly left-wing elite who had founded the state in 1948. But over the past decade or so a new generation of leaders that combines religion and nationalism has emerged.

Iran urges OPEC and non-OPEC members to accept its return to oil market

Iran said it would boycott Sunday's meeting between OPEC and non-OPEC member countries in Qatar as it did not agree with a plan to freeze oil production at the January level.

"We have told some OPEC and non-OPEC members like Russia that they should accept the reality of Iran's return to the oil market. If Iran freezes its oil production at the February level, it means it cannot benefit from the lifting of sanctions," Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh was quoted as saying by the oil ministry's news agency SHANA.

EU 'turns page' in relations with Iran
Mr Zarif, for his part, welcomed the EU's support for Iran's bid to join the World Trade Organization, but called on the US to fulfil their commitments in relation to the nuclear deal and remove obstacles to the banking sector.

Major European banks and businesses continue to be wary of investing in Iran, where US sanctions are still in place linked to alleged terrorism and human rights questions.

"Iran and the EU will put pressure on the United States to facilitate the co-operation of non-American banks with Iran," Mr Zarif said. "It's essential that the other side, especially the United States, fulfil its commitments not on paper but in practice and removes the obstacles especially in banking sector."

Saudi prince makes bold challenges to kingdom's old ways

Saudi Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman got a standing ovation when he visited a gathering of Saudi youth last month. Last week, after hearing about his economic plans in a meeting with religious leaders, one of the kingdom's most conservative sheikhs tweeted a smiling selfie of himself with the prince.
Many younger Saudis see the rise of a man who is usually referred to as "MbS" as evidence their generation is at last playing a role in a country whose patriarchal traditions had made power the province of the old.

"I'm so excited! I want him to be our king now. I mean he's open-minded, has a great plan and maybe a little handsome," said Najla, 20, who did not wish to give her family name.

The odd thing??? We are hearing reports the Syrian army has rapidly increased it's bombing and fighting but Debka is reporting....
Suddenly Russia consents to consider Assad’s ouster

The sources add that the Russians also agreed to begin to negotiate the future of senior Syrian military commanders who are carrying out the war against the rebels. The contacts that include the Saudis and the Jordanians have reached such an advanced stage that participants have started to prepare lists of Syrian commanders who will be removed or remain in their posts.
One of the clearest signs of the progress was the arrival of nearly all of the heads and commanders of the Syrian rebel organizations on Monday and Tuesday (May 2-3) for intensive talks at the US Central Command Forward-Jordan, a war room outside Amman staffed by officers from the US, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the UAE. The gathering was arranged via a series of meetings held in Geneva over the last few days between the top diplomats of the US, Saudi Arabia and Jordan.

Russia warns of retaliation as NATO plans more deployments in Eastern Europe

Russia will reinforce its western and southern flanks with three new divisions by the year-end, officials said on Wednesday, threatening retaliation to NATO's plans to boost its military presence in eastern members Poland and the Baltic States.

While Moscow accuses the Western alliance of threatening its Russia's security, NATO says intensified military drills and its plans for increased deployments on its eastern flank are purely defensive after Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea in 2014 and backed separatist rebels in Ukraine.

U.S. Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said on Monday NATO was weighing up rotating four battalions of troops through eastern member states amid rising tension in the Baltic.

Veteran Saudi oil minister dismissed, indicating strengthening of king's son

Saudi Arabia's King Salman announced a series of changes in the Saudi government on Saturday in line with the country's "Vision 2030" economic and social reform plan announced at the end of April. Ali al-Naimi, who served since 1995 as oil minister, was replaced by Khalid al-Falih, chairman of state-run oil giant Aramco. The petroleum ministry was disbanded, and in its place the Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources was established. Other changes were the appointment of a new health minister, the replacement of the governor of the central bank, and the establishment of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture instead of the water ministry.
DEBKAfile sources: These steps, especially in the oil field, indicate that the person behind them is Deputy Crown Prince and Defense Minister Mohammed bin Salman, the king's son. These changes boost the 30-year-old prince's influence in the security, economic, military and oil fields.
