  • Shimon Peres still seeking spiritual solution to terrorism and Middle East conflict

Last week, Peres traveled not to Rome but to Paris on a similar quest – but this time Abbas was not part of the endeavor, nor was the Pope. Peres was more intent on speaking to the spiritual leaders of the Jewish and Muslim communities of France.
In the aftermath of terrorist attacks in Turkey and Belgium, Peres who was in Paris to sign a cooperative agreement between UNESCO and the Peres Center for Peace, re-enforced a previous conviction that spiritual leaders can do more than politicians to stop the bloodshed.

Glasgow Muslim murdered hours after posting Easter wishes

Asad Shah, a much-loved local shopkeeper, was brutally stabbed near his shop; police arrest Muslim suspect, believe crime was ‘religiously prejudiced’
A Muslim shopkeeper was brutally murdered in Glasgow Thursday, hours after wishing his Christian customers a happy Easter on Facebook, in what police are treating as a religiously motivated crime.

Police have arrested a 32-year-old Muslim suspect in connection with the killing.
On Friday night hundreds of residents held a vigil in Shah’s honor. Tributes to the shopkeeper poured in on social media.

“Everybody has said he was the nicest man. He was clearly much-loved,” Eildon Dyer, one of the organizers, told the BBC. “Everybody had nice stories to tell about him and warm stories. It’s just very, very sad.”

In a message posted to his Facebook account hours before his murder, Shah wished his customers: “Good Friday and a very Happy Easter, especially to my beloved Christian nation … Let’s follow the real footstep of beloved holy Jesus Christ and get the real success in both worlds.”

well, Peres may be misguided spiritually, but at least he understands that this situation is spiritually based!

              jmvho?
There really are some fascinating grumblings going on in the greater middle east right now, including Israel.

Non-Jews are forbidden by Jewish law to live in Israel, chief rabbi says

“According to Jewish law, it’s forbidden for a non-Jew to live in the Land of Israel – unless he has accepted the seven Noachide laws,” Yosef is heard saying in the sermon.

“If the gentile is unwilling to accept these laws, then they must be sent to Saudi Arabia,” the rabbi said. “When there will be full, true redemption, we will do this.”

Earlier this month, Yosef ignited a firestorm of criticism when he said that religious law mandates the killing of an armed terrorist who is trying to commit a violent attack, and shouldn’t be afraid of being tried in court over such an action.

The chief rabbi’s comments generated strong criticism from MKs and NGOs, who said he should leave such matters to the heads of the security services and political decisions makers

This will once again anger many.

The seven Noahide laws as traditionally enumerated are:[7]
              1.Do not deny God.
              2.Do not blaspheme God.
              3.Do not murder.
4.Do not engage in illicit sexual relations.
              5.Do not steal.
6.Do not eat of a live animal.
7.Establish courts/legal system to ensure obedience to the law

              The Haredim
Meanwhile, those Haredim who quietly acknowledge that much of their community actually wants to integrate more fully into Israeli public life, including performing national service and entering the workforce, are frustrated at what they see as the law’s rejection of compromise.

Re: Shimon Peres still seeking spiritual solution to terrorism and Middle East confli

Israeli chief rabbi retracts comments on non-Jews, killing terrorists

Israeli Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef walked back his statement that non-Jews should not live in Israel, calling the comment “theoretical.”
Following a public backlash, Yosef on Tuesday clarified his comments in a statement, where he wrote that his lecture referred to a future messianic era, not the present day. He wrote that he has “always adopted a peaceful and embracing path.”

“These laws are theoretical, refer to fulfilling the seven Noahide Laws in the days of the messiah, and have no connection to the present day,” the statement read. “It’s clear that there’s no law in our time, God forbid, to expel non-Jews from Israel.”
