  • Jerusalem: A Separate Covenant

    Saw this posted on another site.......Jerusalem: A Separate Covenant

    On November 29, 1947 the General Assembly of the United Nations passed a resolution that forever changed the status of Jerusalem in relation to its position in the world. Resolution 181 [II] was passed with hardly any notice. The full effect of this resolution is staggering!

    This resolution established Jerusalem as a "corpus separatum".
    This is a legal term meaning a "body of separate covenant". In passing this resolution the United Nations (UN) declared that it has one covenant with Jerusalem (Resolution 181 [II] and one with the rest of the world (the UN Charter). Israel as a country is to abide by the UN Charter. In the eyes of the UN, Jerusalem is seen as one entity (or body) and the world as another. This happened six months before the declaration of the State of Israel! It is important to understand that this has never happened before in history. No city has ever been set aside by a human government so as to abide by different laws than the rest of the world. The goal of the UN is to establish an "international regime" for Jerusalem (Resolution 194 [III] - December 11, 1948 to be created by the Trusteeship Council. This is a council of the UN that has been delegated full authority over Jerusalem. It is interesting to note that the five members of the Trusteeship Council are the same as the five permanent members of the Security Council. On April 4, 1950 the Council passed the "Statute of City of Jerusalem". This statute sets forth the guidelines and regulations for the ruling of Jerusalem by the "international regime". For reasons known only to the Lord, this statute has not yet been enforced.

    Re: Jerusalem: A Separate Covenant

    OOOOps sorry Debbie..I was just coming to add my two cents below....

    I wonder if that is what the Pope and Arafat were on about in their Feb/2000 agtreement...the Temple Mount Faithful called it a covenant

    http://www.templemountfaithful.org/arafat-pope.htm
    Pope and Arafat Covenant

    According to this agreement, Jerusalem should be an international city based on international resolutions and an international guarantee. (The UN decided on more than one occasion that Jerusalem should be an international city.) They also decided that any step or activity taken by Israel to change this position of Jerusalem is against the law. The agreement also recognises a "Palestinian" state in the land of Israel and agrees on cooperation between the Vatican and the PLO and the Vatican committed itself to assist the so-called "Palestinians". Authorities in the Vatican explained: "the agreement paves the way for establishment of full diplomatic relations with a Palestinian state when it is founded". The PLO representative in the Vatican stated: "This is an historical covenant".

    And then again there is the 1992 Jerusalem Covenant
    made up by Israel and signed by the world's Jewish leadership...which contradicts Scripture in Isaiah 2:2,3 Michah 4:1,2 (same) by stating everyone can worship there under their own Divine name and faith and Israel will protect their holy sites and keep them open and free of descecration...Scripture says they will worship the God of Jacob...one must wonder why they would agree to do otherwise

      Confirm the Jerusalem Covenant for 7 years?

      Daniel 9:27: And he (the Antichrist) shall confirm (strengthen) the covenant (which covenant?) with (the) many for one week (7 years).
      __________

      Past discussions delved into the matter of a strengthening of an existing covenant rather the creation of a new covenant or the entering into a peace treaty between Israel, her enemies and perhaps other outside nations. Since Jerusalem is the troublesome stone and arguably the most contentious of the outstanding issues that stand in the way of peace between Israel and the Arabs, perhaps the future confirmation of the covenant could very well be the Jerusalem Covenant spoken of in this news article.

        Re: Jerusalem: A Separate Covenant

        Take a close look at this....

        From the Jerusalem Covenant thread from yesterday.........reminds me of the 1992 Jerusalem Covenant..clause IV

        Note Katsav is going to talk to the Pope about the tax laws and the church...see below re: covenant

        Israeli officials have said the meeting would include talks on a long-standing dispute on the tax status of the Roman Catholic Church's large property holdings in Israel.

        Article 38

        Holy places, religious buildings and sites

        1. The protection of Holy Places, religious buildings and sites shall be the special concern of the Governor.

        2. The Governor shall decide any question which may arise as to whether any place, building or site, not hitherto regarded as a Holy Place, religious building or site, is to be regarded as such for the purpose of this Statute. For the purpose of deciding any such question, the Governor may appoint a Commitee of Enquiry to assist him.

        3. If any dispute arises between different religious communities or between different confessions and faiths in connection with any Holy Place, religious building or site, the Governor shall decide on the basis of existing rights. For the purpose of deciding any such dispute, the Governor may appoint a Committee of Enquiry to assist him. He may also, if he shall deem fit, be assisted by a consultative council of representatives of different denominations acting in an advisory capacity.

        4. At the request of any party to a dispute under paragraphs 2 or 3 of this Article, the Governor shall seek an advisory opinion of the Supreme Court on points of law, before he takes a decision.

        5. If at any time it appears to the Governor that any Holy Place, religious building or site is in need of urgent repairs, he may call upon the community or denomination or section of the community concerned to carry out such repairs. If the repairs are not carried out, or are not completed within a reasonable time, the Governor may arrange for repairs to be carried out or completed and the expenses of so doing shall be a charge on the revenues of the City but may be recovered from the community or denomination or section of the community concerned, subject to existing rights.

        6. No form of taxation shall be levied in respect of any Holy Place, religious building or site which was exempted from taxation of that form on 29 November 1947. No change in the incidence of any form of taxation shall be made which would either discriminate between the owners or occupiers of Holy Places, religious buildings and sites, or would place such owners or occupiers in a position less favourable in relation to the general incidence of that form of taxation than existed on 29 November 1947.

        7. The Governor shall ensure that the property rights of churches, missions and other religious or charitable agencies shall be confirmed and respected. He shall ensure, further, that all such property which, since the outbreak of the Second World War had been seized without equitable compensation but which has not already been returned or, for one reason or another, could not be returned to its original owners, shall either be restored to them or be transferred to another church, or mission or other religious or charitable agency, representative of the same confession.

        Vatican: Parts of David’s Tomb to Be Under Papal Control

        An official Vatican newspaper has reported that during his upcoming visit to the Vatican, President Moshe Katsav will sign an agreement giving parts of David’s Tomb over to papal control.

        Israeli and Vatican representatives began discussing issues of jurisdiction over certain sites around seven years ago. These sites include various buildings and parcels of land that the Catholic church claims that it used to control. The church is now seeking to reclaim its ownership of these sites.
        Among the places under debate is an area that the church refers to as the site of the “last supper,” which is situated at the burial site of Kings David, Solomon, Rechavam, Assa, Chezekiyahu and Amatzia.
        8. The Governor shall by order ensure that:

        (a) His decisions taken in accordance with the provisions of paragraphs 2 and 3 of this Article are carried into effect and that provision is made for the recovery of sums recoverable in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 5 of this Article;

        (b) Existing rights in respect of Holy Places, religious buildings and sites shall not be denied or impaired;

        (c) Subject to the requirements of public order, public morals and public health, free access is maintained to Holy Places, religious buildings and sites and that free exercise of worship therein is secured in conformity with existing rights;

        (d) Holy Places, religious buildings and sites are preserved;

        (e) No act is committed which may in any way impair the sacred character of Holy Places, religious buildings or sites;

        (f) Provisions of this Article generally, and the special objectives set out in the Preamble to this Statute insofar as they relate to Holy Places, religious buildings and sites, are carried into effect.

        9. An order made in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 8 of this Article may contain penal provisions and shall have effect notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any legislation.

        10. The Governor shall transmit a copy of every order made in accordance with the provisions of paragraph 8 of this Article to the Trusteeship Council as soon as may be practicable and the Trusteeship Council may give such instructions to the Governor in relation thereto as it may deem fit.
