Why I think Russia will go after Israel

To answer that question we have to ask why won't Russia risk a war in central Europe?
first they dont really know who is in control here...its obviously the permanent government, but no one knows who...
A European war would force Poland / Ukraine into NATO... and would likely end up as a nuclear war...

However, If or when the war of words goes hot, As President Ike said, "one soldier can start a world war"....
Then its quite likely that Russia et / al will reason that if they do an overnight nuclear attack on Israel, there won't be any time for anyone to do anything, the war would be over in a few hours... would NATO launch nukes, No !!!

But God.......... So yes that is why & how I think the Gog war will start.

Lewisb, let's start with your first premise. Poland has been a member of NATO since 1996 and a full member since 1999. Ukraine has wanted to be in NATO for years but because of fear of Russia, they have not really ever had their application fully considered. Russia is not suicidal enough, even with Biden in office, to try to nuke Israel. If you don't think that Israel's allies would respond then imho brother you are dead wrong.

Keeping in mind that the land of Israel is "at rest".
Sure does not seem like they could even be thinking "rest" in your scenario - the entire region is erupting in chaos; something tells me the last thing Israel would do is completely drop her guard.

Andy, all.. note I did not say that the Gog war will be before the rapture... however the Gog war t must happen at the beginning of the tribulation period because Israel burns the weapons of war 7 years before the second coming... Jesus will be the one to clean up that mess after Armageddon... So, their must be peace in Israel after the rapture... for a time as the world leaders set up the NWO empire... The coming AntiChrist is only one of the world leaders confirming the covenant because he does not have total power until mid trib... IMHO that is what he "confirms the covenant with many" means...
Also, The Gog war will only last 8 hours, Joel ch2... It will be over before anyone can decide to do anything... No, Biden is not going to nuke Russia !!!

Btw, Amir insists that Israel has already had peace since 1973...fulfilling the Psalm 73 war...
