Yes, the city was built on marshy islands on top of wooden pileings driven into the mud! As usual 
the heavy buildings would naturally force the pilings deeper into the mud over time... Now, after hundreds of years, the new Atlantis is about to sink into the sea 
And of course, its all our fault...
the city was built there by people fleeing invading barbarians who apparently did not have boats....\ It worked well, for a long while...
I was noticing again Saturday that parts of San Diego are not more than six feet above the Winter high tides... Winter storms can flood out some places... and if a large quake happened and the area sunk just a few feet, it would be "interesting!
