  • How to dispose of old Bibles?

    So here's a question for you -

I've got a "collection" of old Bibles. My Father's Bible, My Mother's (2) Bibles, a Bible that my Aunt used when she took Bible in high school (can you believe that?) - pre-1920. Etc, etc, etc. Not to say anything about the numerous ones I used and have collected. Many with marginal notes, etc.

So - realizing that there is no "good" way to dispose of an old used paper Bible, what would you do with them? I seems sacrilegious to just put a Bible in the trash can. But in reality, nobody is ever going to use them. Look at us - we are all using "electronic" Bibles.

    Thoughts?

Too many notes so I just keep them. I have, at times, thought about transferring most notes to a notebook, but I doubt I ever really will.

Inherited Bibles? Hmm .. you raise a good question. Even if notes wanted, were transferred .. what to do with them. ???

I’ll have to think about that some, but my initial thought is with you about the trash. Initially? Burn them? And not like you would just “burn trash” either.

The church is on Earth to save souls from a lost world, not to save the world from lost souls.

Man learns about history, not from history. To learn from history requires wisdom. Cut off from God, he has none, so history repeats; no new thing under the sun.

      Do what I did!!
      I got """organized""" !!!
I created a generic Word doc,,, labeled topical pages A to Z
paged through my Bible notes, entered them in the DOC / notebook...
Simple, see ??? Did not really take that long...
When ""done"" I printed out the DOC and glued it into my new Bible...

        Plum Bob,
I had Great grandparents Bibles. I asked other family members if they would like them---after I looked through them and noted the passages they marked.
Made me wonder what events in their lives made them underline those words.

Hmm, Lewis - then did what with the originals?
I think that's Plumbob's question and one we dealt with as well when both of our parents had gone to be with the Lord.

Lewis, I do understand your easy solution - although I wouldn't use Word, as I consider it to be an inferior solution to word processing tasks, LOL - but you do skirt the question.

What does one do with the actual book (some with, some without covers - some with very soft, and delicate pages, some crisp and - well you get the idea.)

You gotta understand here - I was brought up in a family that thought it's not appropriate to place anything on top of a Bible. The Bible is to be uppermost in the pile - LOL - except perhaps for another Bible. Now I've got a pile of old Bibles and I'm in a quandary as to what to do with them. I just can't bring myself to toss them in a dumpster. Sorry.

Beeleever, I wish I did have my grandparents' Bibles. I can only imagine the wealth of prayer that went up over those books.

                Simple enough, Sam
Three solutions... first, I donate to the library the books I dont need, have read, to make shelf space for the books needing a home ...
second, build or buy new shelves for/on a blank wall... which I have mostly run out of, Btw !!!
Third, re-cover the books that are damaged, its not too expensive...
SADLY most of my paperback sci-fi is by now unreadable as the print has shrunk so badly!!!

Lewis, you leave me no choice! In as much as your only suggestion is to donate them to a library, which would probably take them en masse to their dumpster, I am going to send them to You! That way, when you die, the poor soul who gets to clean out your place will toss them into the trash, and at least My conscience will be clear. LOL And you and the Lord can discuss why you were so nonchalant with His word.

I love ya Brother, I really do!

NO NO NO NO You're jus makin fun of "ol Lewis, now, I jus no it !!!

You git rid of nineteen books you dont need- want- to make room for the Bible's you Do need!!! I already have several, thanks!!!
and make sure there is a mirror behind the bookshelf and each Bible is back lit all night, with a "holy glow"...
I'm seriously thinking of ridding myself of my 18 volume hardcover set of "Parkman's Works" (1899) to lesson the overcrowding in a remote corner of my living room!!!.
Maybe Bro Andy would like to fly them back home to Texas???
AND oh yes, my recount is 25 book shelves (and stacks of books) and other places for VHS & CDs
