Franco-German treaty a step toward ‘European army,’ Merkel says

‘Let’s build a real European army to protect ourselves and have a real foreign policy,’ France’s Macron says amid growing rift with US

For years the US has stopped this portion of the original treaty from going forward. The idea was the US controlled NATO was Europe's military.
    No more.

Beneath rise in extremist murders, ADL sees a political trend line

"Right-wing extremists were linked to all of the 50 extremist-related deaths in 2018– making them responsible for more deaths than in any year since 1995," the ADL said in a statement on the study.
Every single murder committed by an extremist in America in 2018 was motivated by far-right politics.

That's the assertion of an explosive study published Wednesday by the Anti-Defamation League, which investigated 50 deaths last year– itself a 35% spike in extremist-related murders over the prior year.

"Right-wing extremists were linked to all of the 50 extremist-related deaths in 2018– making them responsible for more deaths than in any year since 1995," the ADL said in a statement on the study.

That year saw the Oklahoma City bombing, the deadliest domestic terrorist attack in US history.

France and Germany hope to revive EU with Aachen treaty

"74 years, a single human lifetime, after the end of the second world war, what seems self-evident is being called into question again," German chancellor Angela Merkel warned at the ceremony.
"That's why, first of all, there needs to be a new commitment toward our responsibility within the EU, a responsibility held by Germany and France," she added.
French president Emmanuel Macron warned at the signing that those "who forget the value of Franco-German reconciliation are making themselves accomplices of the crimes of the past. Those who spread lies are hurting the same people they are pretending to defend, by seeking to repeat history."
