  • 'We convinced him' on Syria: Macron says he steered Trump on strikes

    https://www.theguardian.com/world/20...strikes-troops

    French president

    Emmanuel Macron
has claimed that he convinced Donald Trump to keep troops in Syria for the long term and limit Saturday's joint strikes to chemical weapons facilities.
"The French president also said: "Ten days ago, President Trump was saying 'the United States should withdraw from Syria'. We convinced him it was necessary to stay. We convinced him it was necessary to stay for the long term."
The reason I suspect this is true??? If you kept up in French media Macron was sending the same message for the whole time. Rallying Britain and the US persistently..

Thing is Amir said last night that our strikes in Syria only hit empty buildings... that Assad had two days to remove everything!

That one wouldn't be a surprise. The US military stated they were coordinating with the Russians, but insisted the Russians didn't know what they were up too. They also insist they didn't see any activity around the building before the attacks. big shrug

Amir also said it was the Saudi's that 'persuaded' Trump to keep troops there - by saying they'd pay for it (SMART "business" move on Trump's part. Threaten to pull troops and instead have someone else pay for the theater).
They are terrified of Iran and know the US and Israel are their only hope.

        THIS, I believe.

Could be but I have my suspicions about that one.
Saudi king uses Arab Summit to adjust Riyadh's stance toward Trump
Saudi King Salman bin Abdul-Aziz Al Saud used the 29th Arab Summit last weekend to reaffirm long-standing political positions, amounting to some distancing of the kingdom from its close association with the Trump administration. The subtle change in tone publicly reflects growing private doubts about the US administration's commitment to rolling back Iranian influence in the region.

In call with Saudi king, Trump demanded quick end to Gulf rift: U.S. officials

The WH has been putting pressure on the Arab Union to A) make up, B) the Arab Union NATO to take care of the countries in the area, C) Pres. Trump really wants out of the Middle east !!!

Doesn't want the US to be the police of the world, he would rather sell them stuff, and let them take care of themselves.

Please note Macron is still saying he convinced Pres. Trump to do the air strikes. What he is clarifying???

I did not say that either the U.S. or France will remain militarily engaged in the long term in Syria," he told reporters after meeting with New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

Everyone out there does seem to agree on that one anyway. What Pres. Trump is saying publically seems to be what they are hearing from him as well.
