Mattis accuses Putin of mischief, reaffirms US commitment to NATO

    http://nypost.com/2017/06/28/mattis-...tment-to-nato/

Defense Secretary James Mattis accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of making international mischief and reassured allies that the US commitment to NATO is resolute, according to a report on Wednesday.

Saying Russia is challenging the secure and peaceful post-war order, Mattis said Putins making mischief beyond Russian borders will not restore their fortunes or rekindle their hope, apparently referring to the Kremlins meddling in the 2016 presidential election and its involvement in Ukraine, Agence France Presse reported on Wednesday.

Russia is challenging the secure and peaceful post-war order,
Interesting comment. Post which war? And where is this "secure and peaceful" state?

Nevertheless, more and more is being publicly stated that is more and more dangerous. These things must be.

I posted this in another thread but thought I should add it to this one as well.

Nato warns cyber attacks could trigger Article 5 as world reels from Ukraine hack

A cyber attack against any member state would trigger Nato's mutual defence clause the alliance has warned after a massive computer hack paralysed government ministries and dozens of businesses in Ukraine before spreading around the world.

The latest global cyber attack is believed to have been designed to cause chaos rather than extort money. Ukrainian officials have pointed at Russia, which is fighting an undeclared war with Ukraine in the east of the country and has been blamed for previous cyber attacks on Kiev.

Jens Stoltenberg, the Nato secretary general, said alliance members agreed last year that a cyber attack could trigger Article 5 of the north Atlantic treaty in the same way as a conventional military assault and promised more help to Ukraine to bolster its own cyber defences.

No, he didn t try, this wasn t so, Peskov told reporters.

Peskov gave no details about Putin meeting with Kissinger on Thursday. This is an absolutely private meeting, he said, noting that Kissinger is in Moscow to take part in Primakov Readings, a summit of experts, diplomats and politicians in memory of Russian outstanding statesman Evgeny Primakov.

Global leadership part of Washington DNA, while Russia has been defender & advocate Kissinger

Global leadership is part of US foreign policy DNA, according to former US Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, while Russia has previously positioned itself as defender and advocate of a world order based on religion, and then on Marxist principles
Speaking alongside Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the Primakov Readings International Forum on Friday, Kissinger said that the idea of global leadership is almost part of the American foreign policy DNA, adding that the US has positioned itself not simply as a leader, but as the leader.
In a similar way, Russia for the past two centuries has positioned itself as the defender and advocate of a view of world order based first on religion, then on

However we know Putin wants to see three or four leaders sharing that position.

NATO battalions ready to deter Russia

Germany, Britain, the United States and Canada currently lead four multi-national battlegroups in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland, as tripwires against possible Russian adventurism.

Today, we declare that (these battalions) are ready and able to deter and, if necessary, immediately respond to any aggression in concert with national forces underpinned by a viable reinforcement strategy, the defence ministers said in a joint statement at a Brussels summit.

Unfortunately unless you sign up and pay you can only read the part posted, but the comments in it are worth posting.
Henry Kissinger pulls the strings of global diplomacy aged 94

At 94, you might think Henry Kissinger would be ready for retirement. In January, citing his advancing years, he told The Times: Im not looking for employment.

Yet in the past few weeks public sightings of his familiar, stooped figure have been multiplying across the globe as he flies from capital to capital, making speeches and meeting world leaders.

He arrived in Moscow on Thursday for perhaps his most significant intervention for decades.
The past decade has been an uneasy time for the Kissinger Doctrine and its robust view of American leadership and intervention in the world. The former secretary of state, responsible for breakthrough detentes and bloody crises alike, was no fan of President Obamas retreat from global leadership.

But now he is back at it....
