  • Israeli envoys to France, UK summoned over settlement plans

Israel has done this before and usually they just get a verbal comment about being disappointed. It seems something has changed since ...
UN vote on PA State in: 138-9 in favour with 41 abstentions

Countries are getting a little more forceful about the two state solution???

Both reportedly considering recalling their ambassadors to Israel over PM's plans to build 3,000 settlement homes, develop E1 corridor; Germany, Russia urge Israel to reconsider plans; Sweden also summons Israeli envoy.

Israel faces European backlash over settlement plan

Israel faced concerted criticism from Europe on Monday over Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's decision to expand settlement building after the United Nations' de facto recognition of Palestinian statehood.

Netanyahu brushes off world condemnation of settlement plans

"We will carry on building in Jerusalem and in all the places that are on the map of Israel's strategic interests," a defiant Netanyahu said at the weekly cabinet meeting.

Israel says will stick with settlement plan despite European pressure

Such projects, on land Israel captured in a 1967 war, have routinely drawn world condemnation

        Just something to think about.

Syrian opposition may allow peacekeepers if Assad goes

        http://wedg.millenniumweekend.org/fo...ad.php?t=40435

Certainly not a sure thing, but something to watch???

Peacekeepers in the new reality are forces from other "union" member states(ten FM members sent to Gaza was also one of the new realities) with support from the world leaders.

Re: Israeli envoys to France, UK summoned over settlement plans

lol I had to post this one.

"Doomsday" hill may be one Israeli settlement too far

The hillside called E1 is one of the few places around Jerusalem that Jesus Christ might still recognize: a stony, dusty, barren slope on the way down to the desert and the Dead Sea.

If Israel carries out plans announced this week, it is destined to be the site of another Jewish settlement city, on occupied land that the Palestinians believe must be part of the state for which they have just won de facto U.N. recognition.
          http://news.yahoo.com/doomsday-hill-...zM0Yw--;_ylv=3

And it clearly shows why this project is very different from the ones announced in the past.

Critics immediately warned that populating E1 with Israelis would cut off East Jerusalem and carve up the West Bank, effectively thwarting any chance of viability for a Palestinian state and thereby extinguishing the Middle East peace process.

"This is not a routine settlement. This is the doomsday settlement," said Daniel Seidemann, the founder of Terrestrial Jerusalem, an Israeli non-governmental organization that monitors urban development in and around the holy city.

"The message Israel should have learned from the U.N. vote is that we are on very thin ice," he added. "By threatening E1 you are standing on thin ice and jumping up and down."

Re: Israeli envoys to France, UK summoned over settlement plans

Netanyahu refuses to rescind settlement decision

‎"The Palestinian unilateral moves at the UN is a blatant and fundamental violation of agreements to which the international community was a guarantor," the official said. "No one should be surprised that Israel is not sitting with its arms folded in response to the unilateral Palestinian steps."

The source added that Israel would take further steps if the Palestinians went ahead with further unilateral moves of its own.

              Hi Debbie

              Interesting. Good catch.

              European warning shot

Analysis: Europe fed up with Bibi; wants to put Palestinian issue back on the agenda ahead of elections

              http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7...315329,00.html

The polls seem to indicate Bibi's numbers are rising with every firm step.

Re: Israeli envoys to France, UK summoned over settlement plans

its France and England's fault that Israel is small and stuck with unworkable so called solutions. Jordan is the home for Arabs or Muslims who claim Israel---created for them!!! 80% is palistinian if I have that right---yet when Saudi ARabia was formed the Hashemites needed somewhere to go so didnt France and England give Jordan to them??? France had issues in Syria so Hashemites moved from there and Saudi to Jordan.

                Anyone better on the history?

My point being that these sanctimonious nincompoops should let Israel handle Israel's problems and stay out of it---they have enough issues of there own in their own back yards.

Re: Israeli envoys to France, UK summoned over settlement plans

I found these excerpts very salient ( from Debbies article in Jp):
                  http://www.jpost.com/DiplomacyAndPolitics/Article.aspx?id=294435

                  I invite comment,
                  Wendy

Excerpt below speaking of the latest move of the Palestinians in the UN in becoming a non member observer state).

"The plans, however, triggered what one Israeli source described as the worst diplomatic crisis Israel has faced in the last 20 years."

WEndy says that she is aghast that this unilateral move by terrorist palestinians in the UN was accepted. Basically the UN has said that Pallies do not have to recognize Israel and that they will be recognized as a state, this being just a first step. this shows that their rockets and terror work. It is a slap in the face of Israel.

                  Official from Israel's PMO :
                  Excerpt
"The Palestinian unilateral moves at the UN are a blatant and fundamental violation of agreements to which the international community was a guarantor,” the official said."

Wendy says:that it is obvious that the international communitiy is guarantor in name only. where were they ever as each rocket rained down on Israel from its land given away for peace in Gaza. Where are they in upholding the peace talks between these two parties and where are they in cleaning up the mess (they t the UN -created out of JOrdan)?

                  Excerpt:
"The spokesman said that Israeli Ambassador Yossi Gal was called in and told that France condemned the Israeli settlement enterprise β€œin all its forms. They are illegal in the view of international law, harm the trust necessary for a renewal of negotiations and are an obstacle to a just peace based on a two-state solution.”"

This last statement just blows me away in light of UN member states and the wicked perpetrations their states get up to. The UN is evil to its core and hijacked by despotic evil empires and the west has capitulated to baboon states. If anyone has harmed trust, its the international community and its failure to stand by their guantees. The land won by Israel from wars that were perpetrated by others should IMVHO be at this point, just annexed as part of Israel permanently now. Land for peace has not worked, Israel has proof of that and she stands alone so why not stand alone on land that rightfully belongs to her. Seems to me other countries of the UN keep the land they conquest in war.

Re: Israeli envoys to France, UK summoned over settlement plans

                    No disagreement here Wendy

Their actions do seem to prove two things. The international leaders are sticking to the UN plan from 48. The one the Arabs at the time rejected.
Plus they are feeling pressure to get it done. The "Union" is waiting and can't function properly or move forward until Israel is divided along the UN lines. Which I suspect is why so many European countries flipped on Israel this time. It was a way to send a message to Israelis without actually declaring a "Palestine".
An attempt to sway Israeli opinions away from keeping Jerusalem.

Netanyahu's Israeli settlement push could be ballot box boon

For Benjamin Netanyahu, plans to expand Israeli settlements may risk a diplomatic crisis with Europe but could prove a good bet at the ballot box.
                    http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/...+World+News%29

The above article was the last thing the world leaders wanted to hear. The message of accepting the UN plan isn't being accepted by Israelis. So the message they won't be accepted until they change their position is being sent out.
The threats to sanction Israel were purposely put out there today, although they are promptly rejected.
