Re: China's new leader knows the global message

    China names conservative, older leadership

The line-up belied any hopes that Xi would usher in a leadership that would take bold steps to deal with slowing growth in the world's second-biggest economy, or begin to ease the Communist Party's iron grip on the most populous nation.

"We're not going to see any political reform because too many people in the system see it as a slippery slope to extinction," said David Shambaugh, director of the China Policy Program at George Washington University's Elliott School of International Affairs.

"They see it entirely through the prism of the Soviet Union, the Arab Spring and the Colour Revolutions in Central Asia, so they're not going to go there."

Not just the world leaders but the Chinese people maybe greatly disappointed in what they are facing today.
Putin is happy but he maybe facing a revolt from his people soon.

Xi Jinping: The 'compromise' Communist with the popstar wife who became China's new leader

The new Head of China's ruling Communist Party may be married to one of the country's biggest popstars, but little is know about Xi Jinping and his rise to power.

The 59-year-old military chief, officially unveiled as China's new president today, has pledged to make the country 'stronger and more powerful'.

The air of mystery which surrounded Xi was heightened in the run-up to the change of power, when the president-in-waiting disappeared from public life for two weeks, sparking concerns about his health.

China warns against "troublemaking" on Korean peninsula

Chinese President Xi Jinping, addressing a forum on the southern island of Hainan, did not name North Korea but said no country "should be allowed to throw a region and even the whole world into chaos for selfish gain".

Xi promises peaceful, prosperous China helping neighbors

Stressing that peace was pivotal for the future of the world's second biggest economy, Xi appealed to business and political leaders to use diplomacy and dialogue to resolve disputes and allow wealth to spread and solve problems
"For Asia, development is still the top question, development is still crucial for solving many problems and conflicts," Xi told a forum in Boao on the southern Chinese island province of Hainan.
"Without peace, there is no need to talk about development," to added, speaking to an audience of executives and foreign leaders including Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Myanmar President Thein Sein and IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde.

          I resurrect this again...

China president takes charge of sweeping economic reform plans: sources

"Xi is keen to see some real changes," said the economist, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the issue.

Xi will present the reforms at a key meeting of the ruling Communist Party later this year that will set the agenda for the next decade, signaling his seriousness to see breakthroughs, the sources told Reuters.

Some of the sources cautioned that the reforms could face resistance from vested interests, especially state firms.

I'm glad when older threads are updated like this. It's good to see some of the history. I like doing the thread update thing when possible. It kind of keeps like things in a spot too.

Anyway .. to where is Xi going with this? No more communism? Enter, the Third Way? I suspect so .. or something similar. We can't be having all these extremes hangin' around now, can we?

The church is on Earth to save souls from a lost world, not to save the world from lost souls.

Man learns about history, not from history. To learn from history requires wisdom. Cut off from God, he has none, so history repeats; no new thing under the sun.

Re: China's new leader knows the global message

From Nixon’s historic opening to the new U.S.-China world order: Now what?

Dr. Henry Kissinger called for the United States and China to collaborate on a new global order, and a groundbreaking new report, “U.S.- China Economic Relations in the Next Ten Years,” underscored the deepening commercial engagement between the two Pacific powers.

Indeed with President Barack Obama meeting his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in California in June, an overview of Sino-American relations is timely.

In a high profile presentation at the prestigious Asia Society, the China-United States Exchange Foundation rolled out its new report which calls for deeper engagement and mutual benefit for the world’s two largest trading economies. Importantly the survey brings needed historical context to a trading relationship, which while massive today, was virtually non existent thirty-five years ago.
