  • Flood Bugnadoes Sweep Across Missouri

Parts of Missouri affected by serious flooding in recent months are having to contend with a bizarre new natural hazard, swarms of bugs that appear in the shape of tornado funnels.

Truly bizzare. Reminds me of a Michael Creighton novel called "Swarm".

What happens if you get stuck in a bugnado?

I don't know but I don't think I want to find out either, truly weird, especially since they don't even know yet what kind of species of bug yet.

Very strange event to witness, I would think.

            explaination

So, what's going on, in layman's terms? The LiveScience piece explains that the bugs in this clip are near the end of their lives and the flight is actually a mating ritual.

Have not seen them here, just west of St. Louis, but we are having a drought! That was a great book and the swarms were from nanobots gone wild, if I recall! I miss his writings, now that he has passed! I especially liked the one expressing his skepticism on global warming (State of Fear)!

This is around Mo and Iowa where the flooding along the Missouri river was. I haven't seen them here either...at least not yet. We've only begun to recently get some rain after no rain since the end of May.

Truly bizarre looking. A "mating ritual?" There must be a LOT more coming next year?
