  • Fast-moving storms knock out power to 817,000

Thunderstorms packing winds of 75 mph knocked out power to about 817,000 Commonwealth Edison customers this morning, the biggest outage from a storm in at least five years.

As of 3 p.m., Commonwealth Edison said 561,000 customers were still without power: 282,000 north of the city, 126,000 west of the city, 92,000 in Chicago and Maywood and 60,000 in south suburbs.

Koenig is recording it as he watches weather/Quartet

Interesting it hits Chicago, Obama's home base, as Washington hosts the Quartet re: Israel

I didn't realize there were more people out of power with this storm. I thought the last one was bad. The stoplights were still not working on the road where I work..and I work in a county office.

Speaking of odd weather all over. Here in SW Mo., at least where I live, we have not had any rain to speak of since late May. It'll cloud up and cool off as though a storm is coming, and even strong winds, but nothing, no rain, just maybe a few drops. My grass is crunchy, the temp yesterday was 102, today is 99. The humidity has been awful. Since the end of rain in late May, our weather has been like it usually is in august.
