Opposition to Iran's rulers growing: Nobel laureate

"It has in fact become stronger, because the movement is made up of dissidents and the number of dissidents is growing every day," Ebadi told Reuters in an interview.

Widespread human rights violations and the deteriorating economy were swelling the ranks of dissidents but protests had lessened "because anyone who takes to the street is killed or arrested," Ebadi said, speaking through an interpreter.

"The Iranian people are trying to maintain peaceful protests, which is why so far they have refused to take up arms ... The Iranian people do not want Iran to become another Libya," she said.

Nevertheless, Iran's rulers have been shaken by the Arab spring and Ebadi believes they will eventually be ousted.

Ahmadinejad opposes sex segregation at universities
Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on Wednesday ordered the immediate cancellation of plans to segregate sexes at some universities, blasting the move as "shallow and unwise," his website reported.
"It is necessary that these shallow and unwise actions are prevented immediately," Ahmadinejad said against the backdrop of a lively debate in media and among officials over reports of plans to divide female and male students.

The order comes amid a campaign by the ultra-conservative and religious camps dominating the Iranian regime for the abolition of co-education in universities for the new academic year.

"There's no question they want to influence, and particularly in the south," Mullen said. "They are shipping high-tech weapons in there ... which are killing our people and ... the forensics prove that."

I wonder if they shipping the AA12 Super Shotguns. These shotguns are like miniature warhead grenade launchers. They're about the size of a regular shotgun. You couldn't survive a single shotgun wound from one of these bullets because the bullet fragments into shrapnel inside the body and... that's all I'll say...it's graphic. And if you're hit with a AA12 in the automatic mode, they can blast heads and limbs right off the person in seconds even at long range! The forensics...how gory. The movie The Expendables show what these weapons do.

Our own military uses the AA12 shotguns... to blast holes in buildings and doors so they can have easy access...they say...but my gosh if our military use them for anti-personnel... It's so wrong, the disregard for human life. Can you imagine if these weapons got into the hands of regular citizens? You can watch the demo but it gives me nightmares.

If this is too graphic, please edit. It's a sign of the violence in the Last Days.

The public purse is a political battleground in any country. But when Ayatollah Ali Khamenei dubbed this Persian calendar year 'the year of of economic jihad,' it signaled a turn – the pain of a flailing economy now so sharp that the regime wanted to shrug it off publicly with an air of defiance.
