    Re: Signs in the heavens

I tried to look through the 49 pages of this thread but may have missed this. If it's already been posted, I apologize. Have we talked about this upcoming celestial sign projected to occur on September 23, 2017? Several people claim this is the sign of Revelation 12, and that it hasn't occurred either ever before, or since Christ's birth. I would like others' thoughts, etc. Thanks!(PS--I don't vouch for this person's theology, eschatology, etc. I was just looking for the picture of the celestial event and couldn't figure out how to post just an uploaded picture, so thus the link)

Summer Solstice 2016: When is the longest day of the year? What is the ‘Strawberry Moon’?
This year’s solstice coincides with the Strawberry Moon – a once-in-a-lifetime occurence

It is a full moon, which occurs in June, named by early Native American tribes. It is a full moon like any other, but marks the beginning of the strawberry season. The two events coincide once every 70 years.

Uncertainties, still, for asteroid 2013 TX68
Asteroid 2013 TX68 passes closest in early March. Astronomers have been trying to figure out how close.

UPDATE February 13, 2016. Astronomers haven’t exactly been biting their nails about asteroid 2013 TX68. Although the asteroid’s trajectory is highly uncertain, they’ve never thought the asteroid would hit Earth when it passes closest in early March. Latest estimates say the asteroid will pass no closer than 19,000 miles (30,000 km). By contrast, the moon’s distance is 250,000 miles (400,000 km). The space rock is currently approaching Earth from the sun’s direction, which makes it difficult to track it – and get a more exact orbital estimate – until it is closer to us and passes to the night sky between late February and early March.

If a space rock of this size were to enter our atmosphere, it would produce a shock wave at least twice as intense as that of the Chelyabinsk meteor, which broke windows in six Russian cities – caused more than 1,500 people to seek medical care, mostly due to cuts from flying glass – and did other damage to thousands of buildings.

We will find out very soon, but scientists are not concerned. Paul Chodas, manager of NASA’s Center for Near Earth Object Studies, said:

The possibilities of collision on any of the three future flybys are far too small to be of any real concern.

Powerful Solar Storm to Hit Earth Before New Year's Eve
By ALYSSA NEWCOMB Dec 30, 2015, 12:05 PM ET
A powerful solar storm set to slam Earth today will make for stunning views of the Northern Lights just before New Year's Eve. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's Space Weather Prediction Center said the "strong" storm could allow the Northern Lights to dip as far south as Oregon and Illinois.

NOAA classifies solar storms on a scale of one to five (one being the weakest; five being the most severe). Today's storm is forecast to be a G3 event, meaning it could have the strength to cause fluctuations in some power grids, intermittent radio blackouts in higher latitudes and possible GPS issues.

The storm is the result of a coronal mass ejection -- basically a flare of charged protons and electrons -- that burst from the sun earlier this week. Once they reach Earth, the particles interact with the planet's magnetic field to paint the sky in dazzling colors.

NOAA predicts the effects of today's storm could linger into New Year's Eve.

Scientists to monitor skies for UFOs
UFODATA wants to make UFO studies a more rigorous science and deploy a global network of automated surveillance stations to watch for UFOs full-time.

Although it’s organized as a separate, all-volunteer, nonprofit organization, UFODATA appears to be an offshoot of the Center for UFO Studies. That center was founded in the 1970s by J. Allen Hynek, the professional astronomer who coined the phrase close encounters. Hynek had earlier been drafted to serve as a consultant to a U.S. Air Force study, begun in 1952, to investigate unidentified flying objects. This was the famous Project Blue Book. Hynek’s bio at the Center for UFO studies says he was at first skeptical about the UFO phenomenon, but later, it seems, he became profoundly curious. When he established the Center for UFO Studies in 1973, Hynek wanted to bring together scientists and other highly-trained technical experts, who would work to solve what he saw as the UFO enigma.

Now, 42 years later, UFODATA wants to do exactly the same thing, with the help of a big new idea.

Shock as NASA confirms asteroid TWO MILES wide will pass close to Earth in 48 HOURS

A HUGE asteroid measuring almost two miles across will skim past Earth in just 48 HOURS, Nasa has confirmed.

    By NATHAN RAO
    PUBLISHED: 15:44, Thu, Oct 8, 2015

It should fly safely past earth on Saturday, but astronomers are keeping a close eye on 86666 (2000 FL10) which, according to NASA, will be one of the biggest to pass close to our planet in recent times.

It is interesting that I started this page dispelling the rumor that the earth was going to be hit by an asteroid in September.

Celestial wonders: Our Sun Fires Off It's Biggest CME Since June with an impressive M7.6- class flare!

Celestial wonders: Our sun expels it's biggest CME since June the 25th with an impressive M 7.6-class flare along with 7 lesser M-class flares in the last two days
a strong M7-class solar flare erupted from the large sunspot area AR2422.
Extreme UV radiation from the flare ionized the top of Earth's atmosphere and caused a brief low-frequency radio blackout over South America and the Atlantic ocean
The sun is thought to be entering it's Maunder Minimum period, also known as the "prolonged sunspot minimum", is the name used for the period starting in about 1645 and continuing to about 1715 when sunspots became exceedingly rare, as noted by solar observers of the time and a period of excessive winters hit the northern hemisphere.

The last X-class flare recorded this year was way back on the 5th of May this year when the sun managed to squeeze out a X-2.7
Stay in tune, with the unstable AR2422 sunspot area we could be in for a large quake or two in the coming days!
So far this year the sun has produced only 2. X-class flares compared to 16 in 2014

The spectacle in the sky was reported this past Tuesday afternoon in numerous cities including, San Jose, Parrita, Pavas, Escazu and Hatillo. Coincidentally, the sighting occurred on the country's Independence Day.

Many witnesses took to social media to post photos and video of the luminous cloud formation, with some even noting that it looked like an "end of times" scene.

    RELEASE DATE: AUG 20, 2015

No asteroid threatening Earth in September
Despite rumors, no asteroid threatens Earth. All known Potentially Hazardous Asteroids have less than a 0.01% chance of hitting Earth in the next 100 years, says NASA.

Numerous recent blogs and web postings are erroneously claiming that an asteroid will impact Earth, sometime between September 15 and 28, 2015. On one of those dates, as rumors go, there will be an impact – “evidently” near Puerto Rico – causing wanton destruction to the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States and Mexico, as well as Central and South America.

That’s the rumor that has gone viral – now here are the facts.

There is no scientific basis — not one shred of evidence — that an asteroid or any other celestial object will impact Earth on those dates.

…said Paul Chodas, manager of NASA’s Near-Earth Object office at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.
