A watch for the city of Boston has been made now till 11pm.
This is just not normal at all. The last tornado of any significance was 1954, the great Worchester tornado. A few since then but nothing like this. Several tornados are rolling through western mass and the state is freaking out….
Springfield, Westfield and other towns hit hard by tornadoes
Gov. Deval Patrick has declared a state of emergency tonight as is calling in the National Guard to help residents dig out after tornadoes hit Westfield, Springfield and reportedly in three more communities leaving a trail of devastation.
Patrick said tonight 19 communities have suffered some kind of destruction and there is one fatality, still unconfirmed, from a car that was flipped over by a tornado in West Springfield. The governor also said 1,000 Guard troops have been deployed.
Residents of Springfield now say they are bracing for a second storm that could produce tornadoes as a new front bears down on the city.
I can’t tell you how weird this is for Mass, we don’t even get thunder storms like other parts of the country. I thought we did until I spent some time in North Little Rock AR and found out what a REAL thunderstorm was. We get ocean storms and blizzards but nothing like this. The local news (on nonstop) is using the word “historic.”
brick buildings have come down, roofs blown off, alot of springfield is impassable.
How far is Springfield from you, Boston? You NEVER hear of tornadoes up that far. This would be considered a freak thing indeed. Here in the south tornadoes are just part of living in the south but wow so surprising up there.

Springfield is the other end-ish of the state, a 1 1/2 hr drive. Boston and the surrounding area is very hilly, that and the cool ocean keep us safe from Tornados, and they don’t get a chance to form. As you go west, the center of the state flattens out before you hit the mountains, there is where Springfield lays.
We do get them time to time, last was 3 years ago, but never strong like this and it will be one local short term event. Last report was there were 7 touchdowns in the state tonight.
These tornadoes are coming out of no where, Mass has never had anything like this in my life time. I know that certain southern states do get hit periodically due to it being tornadoe season, but some southern states never had it before like they are getting it.
I personally believe that our nation needs to bless Israel again, and stop trying to take apart their land and give to their enemies..
I saw the news this morning and realized just how unusual this is. The only tornadoes reported in the United States that day just happened to be in one area..in Massachusetts of all places. I didn't know they were so rare for that area. The river video was amazing/scary!
Boston proper just got “Midwest style” thunder and wind.
My kids and I … well we are a bit different …. Took a short walk in front of the house to experience the “wild side” of God … I’m singing – I hear the rolling thunder – thy power throughout – the universe displayed – then sings…. Then I got chided by the 16 year old for being corny …. We got soaked

Mass was totally unprepared. We have no sirens, EBS never gets used here for real, all we had going for us was basements to get into.
3 hrs of local news of dumbstruck reporters gawking at downed trees
Wow! I couldn't believe the headline on this thread. Pretty much unheard of. Hurricane season started yesterday. I pray that it will be a quiet one for all of us in FL.
