HSB--me too. I know that we are schizophrenic when it comes to Israel. Harper says some great things and stands alone at times but WE DO support the non solution of the two states. Yes we were part of Annapolis. And yes like Ninevah change has to come from the top down even if prayed for and pestered by a godly minority . My friends and I write Harper at lest once a month between all of us--sigh!

I was talking to a friend this weekend and we were discussing what amazing faith Hezekiah had to have in his wayward nation to stand with God against a world power at his doors. What supernatural faith Harper and those in our govt woud have to have to stand against the whole world on behalf of Israel. I'm sure there is much pressure , what are the powers behind the scenes threatening. boycott of our products, stock exchange, shunning. Does Harper have the faith to stand alone with God against all nations? that would take super human faith. but we can ray for more faith, we can pray for a communication breakthrough by our God to confront our leader. We need to toil on Harper's behalf. Pray against pride that may beset him. Power is hard to deal with.

I almost didnt vote as I did not want to have blood on my hands with this Palestinian deal. Our riding on Vancouver Island elected the socialist hoards anyway so I was glum after the election but glad that Harper got in. I saw Preston Manning at Harper's final speech and I prayed that he would give sound and Godly advise to Stephen as Preston is a solid man. I miss him and his crazy hick analogies like: starting a 747 plane with a flashlight battery, and his well oiled owl--like what is that?

        PS
I cant see Harper liking or agreeing with Obama in principle on many things on a personal level but I wonder what happens to people to get into power and what agreements they make with the zeit geist.

        Wendy

          Canada supports negotiated Mideast settlement

Prime Minister Stephen Harper's government refused Friday to back U.S. President Barack Obama's call for a Middle East peace accord based on borders prior to the 1967 Arab-Israeli War.

Pressed on Canada's position on the pre-1967 starting point, Harper spokesman Dimitri Soudas said he wouldn't speculate.

An Independence Day Gift From Canada

Here is an interesting portrait of Harper's impact on Canada IN HOW IT HAS BENEFITED ISRAEL from The Jerusalem Post online edition:
Of course, many folks have also labored behind the scenes in Canada to educate Canada about Israel's importance, understanding the benefit and blessing that accrues to people and nations who aid the Jewish people vis a vis the nation of Israel. Nevertheless, Harper's positive role and influence is highly noteworthy and his courage and honorable leadership worthy of emulation by other national and international statesmen. A real godsend and blessing for his nation! (Dr. Carol Cohen writing at )

This Yom Ha'atzmaut season, there is at least one country to which Israel can show gratitude for making pro-Israel positions both respectable and electable
The people of Canada gave Israel a lovely Independence Day gift last week when they resoundingly reelected Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

The first is that Harper is currently one of Israel's best friends worldwide. Under his leadership, Canada has repeatedly cast the sole vote against anti-Israel resolutions in the UN Human Rights Council - as in a 2009 vote condemning Israel's operation in Gaza, or a 2007 vote placing Israel's "human rights violations" permanently on the council's agenda (European countries, by contrast, abstained on the former and supported the latter).

Harper made Canada the first country, preceding even Israel itself, to announce a boycott of the UN's Durban 1I conference on racism in 2009 on the grounds that it was set to be an anti-Israel hate fest. And he has worked to end Canadian government funding for anti-Israel organizations: Last year, for instance, his government de-funded several Canadian groups involved in anti-Israel activity; he also slashed Canada's contribution to UNRWA, the UN organization founded to prevent the resettlement of Palestinian refugees so that the ongoing refugee crisis could continue to feed anti-Israel sentiment.

But perhaps even more important than Harper's specific actions is the degree to which he has changed attitudes toward Israel in his country.

            .
            .

Thus one would, at least, have expected Harper's pro-Israel stance to remain strictly confined to his own party. But in fact, while both main opposition parties continue to advocate markedly less pro-Israel policies than Harper does, change has begun seeping into their ranks as well.

This became glaringly evident last year, when the provincial legislature of Ontario - Canada's largest province - voted unanimously to condemn Israel Apartheid Week because it "serves to incite hatred against Israel, a democratic state that respects the rule of law and human rights, andŠ diminishes the suffering of those who were victims of a true apartheid regime in South Africa."

And that is precisely the point: In the few short years since he entered the Prime Minister's Office in 2006, Harper has managed to make being pro-Israel politically respectable in Canada so respectable that politicians on both sides of the political fence are willing to take pro-Israel positions even when powerful interest groups oppose them.

EU ministers say they will back President Barack Obama's call for a peace treaty between Israel and the Palestinians based on the 1967 borders.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said Monday that "the EU has had a common position for a long time that the (peace talks) should be based on the 1967 lines, with land swaps."

Ron: we are prepared to hide you and your family in our basement in Canada. Or you can simply claim you are a refugee and gain immediate health and education benefits and monthly financial support. Fortunately since the country was settled the treaties with the Indian tribes have been generally respected and honored. They gave up land, the guys with the guns gave up some axes and blankets.

Livni: Israel must take lead in enacting two-state solution

Opposition leader addresses AIPAC conference, stating failure to act to promote peace process is not an option; says Palestinian UN statehood bid can be stopped, but Netanyahu gov't must help Obama prevent it.

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni on Monday addressed the American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s annual conference in Washington, saying the only way to maintain Israel as the national home of the Jewish people was to take the lead in enacting a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Livni said that such a move was in Israel's interest and was not to be done as a favor to anyone else, including the US president, nor was the peace process nearly to be used as a talking point to increase Israel's standing in the world.
