AMMAN (JT) –– Their Majesties King Abdullah and Queen Rania on Wednesday held a lunch banquet in honour of Spanish Crown Prince Felipe and his wife Princess Letizia, who are currently on an official visit to the Kingdom.

Several Royal family members and high-ranking officials attended the banquet along with the accompanying Spanish delegation.

Also yesterday, Prime Minister Marouf Bakhit met with the Spanish crown prince and looked into means to develop cooperation between Jordan and Spain at all levels to best serve the interests of the both countries.

Bakhit commended Spain’s support for the Kingdom in the fields of education, training and energy among others, noting that the cooperation between the two countries is considered a platform for regional cooperation between the Arab world and the EU.

Highlighting the latest developments in the region, Bakhit and Felipe underlined the need to bolster international efforts to push the peace process forward in order to establish an independent and viable Palestinian state.

The prime minister called on the EU to play a greater role to resolve the regional conflict, noting that Jordan and Spain share the same vision towards the Middle East causes, especially the need to enhance the level of security in the region.

The two officials discussed the latest political developments in the Arab world and Spain’s role in backing peace efforts as part of the EU.
