In the course of a highly cordial discussion that President Medvedev had with the Pope and later on with the Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the sides expressed their satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relationship and expressed the willingness to develop them further, including with the aid of diplomatic relations," the communique said.

"Both sides stressed the importance fo broad cooperation between the Holy See and the Russian Federation in the defense and promotion of general human values, as well as in the cultural and social spheres," it said, adding that Medvedev and his hosts in the Vatican had pointed out the significance of inter-religious dialogue for society.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attended Medvedev's talks with Tarcisio Bertone and Foreign Secretary Dominique Mamberti where they raised issues from the international agenda.

"In part, they looked at the situation in the Middle East," the communique said.

Medvedev and Benedict XVI will compare notes on foreign political problems
Moscow, February 16, Interfax - Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will pay a working visit to Vatican City on February 17, where he will meet with Pope Benedict XVI and Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone.

Russia and the Vatican City established diplomatic relations in December 2009, after Medvedev decided to upgrade the status of the Russian mission in the Vatican City to an embassy.

Medvedev and Benedict XVI will compare notes on foreign political problems, will discuss the architecture of European security, and interaction between Russia and the Holy See within international organizations, such as the United Nations, the Council of Europe, or the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, he said.

"Russia and the Holy See share close positions on many foreign political problems based on priority of international law and moral principles in communication between countries," he said.

I didn't know this was the Pope's sphere of influence (Red)

Diplomacy over the next week....Medvedev meets the Pope on the 17th, Peres heads to Spain on the 21st for 5 days, KJC heads to meet Medvedev on the 24-25th...common denominator all 4 men support a PA State.

Interesting when following the past number of years.
