.France is willing to host Middle East peace talks that would take “political steps” toward creating a Palestinian state, Prime Minister Francois Fillon said.

“We don’t want a conference that is just another session of giving aid,” Fillon said in Paris today after meeting with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad. “We see a state as absolutely necessary and we see no reason why it shouldn’t be created this year.”

Fayyad said a Paris conference would be “very important” and Europe’s role in talks with Israel should grow. Mark Regev, a spokesman for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said Israel was willing “to meet the Palestinian leadership for direct talks here in Jerusalem, there in Ramallah or in any other mutually agreeable place.”

Palestinian Prime Minister Salam Fayyad is to meet his French counterpart François Fillon and President Nicolas Sarkozy in Paris on Thursday in a bid to boost the flagging Middle East peace process. A dinner in the evening at the foreign ministry will be attended by top European Union foreign affairs head Catherine Ashton and Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere.

France is hoping the Palestinian prime minister's visit will bring both sides back to the negotiating table with a bigger role for the EU.

I am not surprised France...and right now!

Sarkozy's Mediterranean Union plan is falling apart. France and Egypt were the first co-chairs for the first two years. It is all because of the Israel/PA situation it is on hold. Now with Egypt in such a mess Sarkozy will try to come to the rescue I am sure! ..........rescue his Mediterranean UNion that is, but first the Israel/PA peace process must be rescued! Stay tuned!

Paris to host new Palestinian donor conference: Ministers


PARIS: Paris will host a new international donor conference for a Palestinian state in June, ministers from donor countries and the so-called Quartet on the Middle East said following talks here Thursday.

"At the request of the PA, a new international donors' conference for the Palestinian State will be held in Paris in June 2011," a statement released after the talks said.
