My daughter came home from school today and told me that our county is seriously thinking of cutting the school week back to 4 days due to the price of gas. They said the county is having a hard time either paying for or providing the gas for all the buses in the county. (my daughter wasn't real clear on that point) Our county is considered a rural county and so many miles are driven everyday on bus routes due to the distances to school. The school day is already 7 hours long as they go an hour more than many counties so as to build in snow days. We are not really a poor county as we thrive on taxes from tourist dollars. Of course if those dollars decrease due to less traveling to the area by tourist because of gas prices then I guess the county is just preparing ahead of time. Anyone else have this going on where they live?

Re: Cutting week to 4 days due to gas...
How about a 3 day week?
I started a new job with a vending company. Full time pople work 4 day routes and part time 3 days.
My 3 days have been 36 hours a week. Longer route days, less trucks on the road.
Last week the jump in gas cost the company $1000 more a week in fuel.

Re: Cutting school week to 4 days due to gas...
I would certainly work 4 10-hour days. Companies should really think about this. However, I work at a company where they let the customers run wild and get anything they want. Kind of like the old saying "the inmates are running the asylum"...

Re: Cutting school week to 4 days due to gas...
I switched to a 4 day 10 hr. work week this year and am enjoying it so far. I was working a lot of 10 hr. days last year and not getting paid for it so I thought I might as well switch and have a day off. I work in the school system and am fortunate that my position is flexible.Psalm 63:3 Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise You.
