    From correspondents in Dubai

    04sep05

HURRICANE Katrina has incited a storm of enthusiasm among Islamist bloggers who claim the destruction was sent by God to torment the American empire.

"Katrina, a soldier sent by God to fight on our side... the soldier Katrina joins us to fight against America," said one Islamist web site.

Another said: "Allahu akbar (God is greatest). Soldiers of God, Hurricane Katrina demolishes America. Don't think that God doesn't care about the injustices of tyrants."

Internet sites published dozens of photos showing crumbled buildings, overturned cars, flooded streets, devastated oil refineries, residents wading through muck and water and US flags ripped to shreds by the hurricane that wreaked havoc in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

The pictures should "serve as a lesson," one blogger said.

"In spite of being a superpower and of its technological development, America was unable to cope with the power of the Almighty," the writer said.

Another blogger, who decorated his site with photos of Al-Qaeda leaders Osama bin Laden and Iraq's most-wanted man Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, said: "America observes silence over its human losses."

The Islamist perspectives were not limited to the Internet.

A Kuwaiti Arabic-language newspaper published similar comments by the director of the Kuwaiti ministry of endowment's research center, Mohammed Yussef al-Mlaifi.

"When the satellite channels reported on the scope of the terrifying destruction in America (caused by) this wind, I was reminded of the words of (Prophet Mohammed): 'The wind sends torment to one group of people, and sends mercy to others.'

"I do not think -- and only Allah knows -- that this wind, which completely wiped out American cities in these days, is a wind of mercy and blessing. It is almost certain that this is a wind of torment and evil that Allah has sent to this American empire," he said in the daily Al-Siyassa.

"But how strange it is that after all the tremendous American achievements for the sake of humanity, these mighty winds come and evilly rip (America's) cities to shreds? Have the storms joined the Al-Qaeda terrorist organization?"

He also cited a passage he found in the Koran: "The disaster will keep striking the unbelievers for what they have done, or it will strike areas close to their territory, until the promise of Allah comes to pass, for, verily, Allah will not fail in His promise."

Many bloggers drew parallels between the destruction caused by the storm and that brought by US military action in Afghanistan and Iraq, and blasted US President George W. Bush's so-called "war on terror."

"America fights Islam in the name of the war against terrorism, kills innocents in Afghanistan and Iraq and supports the Zionist entity (Israel)," said one site, then listing two dozen curses -- habitually used by Islamist radicals at the end of prayers -- against the United States.

Amid all the criticism, at least one blogger spoke out in defense of the victims, saying he was "exasperated at the rejoicing over the misfortunes of Americans."

"Certainly, the leaders of the United States have oppressed many peoples, but the citizen... is in no way guilty."

Islamist web sites had also cast blame on South Asian countries hit by last year's tsunami that killed more than 125,000 people, saying "the hand of God" was involved.

Back then, one scribe described the tsunami as "divine vengeance against Thailand, a country of debauchery."

(The god that hates Israel and the Jew hates America too, apparently, at least according to these "theologians") - surprising comment at the end though.

The bad thing is that many of our soldiers have given there life defending
some of these people, if not for the U.S. and our allies Sadam would be
in charge of Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The most sad thing is unless they
repent and except Jesus as there Lord they face a life in hell.

They've accomplished nothing. All they do is hate and kill. This is the foundation laid by their "prophet". At least one had some common sense. Had they not found oil, trillions of dollars, and it wasn't developed except by the Western powers, they'd still be pounding sand. This oil is the economic engine that's going to drive Armageddon because it fuels this "theology".

I've seen many people, since 9/11, refer to this "holy" "faith". As you note, at its core it is nothing more than a rejection of the Gospel wrapped up in another package. And there's a whole lot of "preachers" that can't tell the difference. With those "skills", I'm glad they aren't cooking and cleaning as they wouldn't be able to tell poison from food.

I just wanted to point out that "they" didn't find the oil beneath their feet--WE, as in good old USA engineers found it and showed them how to get it out of the ground and what to do with it. Another story of how the US helped a "grateful" nation.

Yes, that's what I was saying. It has definitely set the stage. Nobody imagined what was going to happen. Of course, that wouldn't have stopped it anyways.

                An interesting view on Katrina.
One should wonder whether the Tsunami that killed almost 300,000 people, mainly muslims, was also sent by a allah?

                Let them pound sand.

Oh no, the tsunami was undoubtedly caused by the CIA and the Mossad, don'tcha know?

                    Re: Anti-US bloggers hail Katrina

As for the Tsunami, it's great the allah didn't allow more to die. He saved some people, but others went to paradise. Of course that's what they would have said, if you ask them. I was just thinking about that yesterday, as I was cutting the grass. I have a large corner lot, and time to think while cutting. Do you ever notice that these people always find the positive in things, and give this clown the credit? The suicide bomber was 12 years old, but he/she blew up many infidels. What??? They neglect to see the age of the child and what the child did. Blinded by satan!
As for Katrina, I'm surprised they didn't give credit to allah on this one too.
But what about Muslim people down there? What if they were harmed too? Where was allah there? You don't hear about the muslim's there, because no one in that religion will speak against allah (or negative things). It's a religion of st*pidity and thugs IMHO. They rely on the fact that people trust the clerics, and revel in violence.
I am saddened by the blindness of these people. They don't see, they can't know, that this is a false person. Only when they die, do they find out he doesn't exist. If only they would see!!!!

You know, you really have to give Satan credit (not in a good way but he's no dummy). He fools them into thinking they will buy "Paradise" and 72 perpetual-virgin babes by killing somebody else. So he gets 2-for-1. Sometimes 200-for-1 (Bali, Indonesia). Or 2900-for-19 (9/11). I'm sure if they could come back, they'd be the greatest evangelists against this lie. But they can't. It is too late for them.
