  • Anyone see photo of Katrina's eye?

I was watching the multiple news coverages of the hurricane. One of them had an aerial view of the eye wall just prior to landfall. It was an extremely clear video and the eye looked exactly like the spokes of a wheel..inside the swirling wheel of the outer storm bands.
    Did anyone else notice that?

Can anyone point me to that picture? I'd love to have that one printed out.

    Thanks in advance!

I noticed that....the eye with "spokes" resembling that in a wagon wheel. It is odd.....I've seen a lot of hurricane "eyes".......many are very ominous (sp?) in their intensity and sometimes almost human eye looking in shape.....but I remember this one and thinking I hadn't seen one like it before.....I was hoping that the "spokes" were indications of further decreasing......

Am just thinking off the "cuff" at that moment.....I remember we were praising God that Katrina had gone from 175 down to 140 prior to landfall......am wondering now if the devastation could have been any worse (the big picture) had it hit with 175 mph sustained winds??????

I still Praise God for the decrease.....am sure that many were spared their lives due to this.

MSNBC has it has a background occassionally. I am looking for the picture in question somewhere on the internet. I can't seem to find it. I need it, however, to analyze it. Everyone interested should look for that picture.

We are looking for the picture just before landfall that shows a closeup of the eye.

Envisat demonstrates the power of two, with combined optical MERIS and radar ASAR views of the eye of Hurricane Katrina acquired 28 August 2005 over the Gulf of Mexico. The MERIS imagery shows the swirling cloud-tops of the storm, while the ASAR image pierces through the clouds to show the shape of the wind-driven sea surface.

This close-up shows Katrina's eye sidelit by the rising sun. A classic stadium effect is evident.

Thanks for such efforts, mcginn! That latest image is somewhat closer to what I am searching for. The image of the spokes in Isabel are the same as in Katrina, just not as defined. I had never seen them before, to my recollection and I sure did want a picture that i could print out.
I do so appreciate everyones efforts to help me in this little quest.
                  Thanks again..
