Sirte, Libya (SANA) –Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said on Saturday that Achieving peace demands total Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan based on relevant Security Council resolutions and the Madrid principle of land for peace.
In a speech at the opening session of 22nd Arab Summit in the Libyan city of Sirte, Moratinos, whose country is currently holding the presidency of the European Union, added that one of the very important priorities of the EU is to get engaged in the peace process in the Middle East and be committed to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict on all Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese tracks, saying that achieving peace is a fundamental interest for all parties including the EU.
The Spanish Foreign Minister stressed that the EU does not recognize any change in the 1967 borders including Jerusalem, and it does not recognize the annexation of Jerusalem.
Moratinos pointed out that if there is to be genuine peace, we must find a way for negotiations to solve the status of Jerusalem.
Moritanos said that the Palestinian State must be established within an agreed timetable and we couldn't wait any more to resume peace negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis.
Moritanos added that the region is facing challenges that it has never seen before, calling on Arabs and Europeans for building a strong coalition for peace and solve the Arab-Israeli conflict.
