Israel fears Obama heading for imposed Mideast settlement

    http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1159863.html

U.S. President Barack Obama's demands during his meeting with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu last Tuesday point to an intention to impose a permanent settlement on Israel and the Palestinians in less than two years, political sources in Jerusalem say.

Israeli officials view the demands that Obama made at the White House as the tip of the iceberg under which lies a dramatic change in U.S. policy toward Israel.

Of 10 demands posed by Obama, four deal with Jerusalem: opening a Palestinian commercial interests office in East Jerusalem, an end to the razing of structures in Palestinian neighborhoods in the capital, stopping construction in Jewish neighborhoods in East Jerusalem, and not building the neighborhood of Ramat Shlomo.

But another key demand - to discuss the dispute's core issues during the indirect talks that are planned - is perceived in Jerusalem as problematic because it implies that direct negotiations would be bypassed. This would set up a framework through which the Americans would be able to impose a final settlement.

Wow what an article N1095A. I have to post the next paragraph as it shows the shift in general
It is not just Obama's demands that are perceived as problematic, but also the new modus operandi of American diplomacy. The fact that the White House and State Department have been in contact with Israel's European allies, first and foremost Germany, is seen as part of an effort to isolate Israel and put enormous political pressure on it.

Indeed and there seems to be another shift happening. They seem to be taking the Palestinian position of divide the land now as required under the Roadmap then talk about the changes in the detail after, as the talk first option isn't working.

            Syria-EU (Moratinos Spain's FM/Present EU rotating head)at Arab Summit

            http://www.isria.com/pages/28_March_2010_40.php

Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said on Saturday that Achieving peace demands total Israeli withdrawal from the occupied Syrian Golan based on relevant Security Council resolutions and the Madrid principle of land for peace.

In a speech at the opening session of 22nd Arab Summit in the Libyan city of Sirte, Moratinos, whose country is currently holding the presidency of the European Union, added that one of the very important priorities of the EU is to get engaged in the peace process in the Middle East and be committed to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict on all Palestinian, Syrian and Lebanese tracks, saying that achieving peace is a fundamental interest for all parties including the EU.

The Spanish Foreign Minister stressed that the EU does not recognize any change in the 1967 borders including Jerusalem, and it does not recognize the annexation of Jerusalem.

Moratinos pointed out that if there is to be genuine peace, we must find a way for negotiations to solve the status of Jerusalem.

He clarified that the EU urged the Israeli government to immediately end all settlement activities in Jerusalem and the West Bank, saying that settlement building is illegal under international law.

This just came to my attention and as it Hal Lindsey I thought it appropriate
In fact, I think President Obama is getting ready to throw Israel under the bus. And there's no way that can end well for the United States.

Re: Israel fears Obama heading for imposed Mideast settlement

no surprises with any of this. some of us have been predicting an imposed settlement for months, even years....
I doubt the situation will drag on for another two years. There is a real momentum building and obvious impasse between Obama and Netanyahu, Poor Dennis Ross. An experienced diplomat who understands that Netanyahu is the moderate in his coalition...much of the support comes from further right. His government would self-destruct if he caved in to the USA on Jerusalem. Ross will be "road kill" at the rate things are developing.
I was asked to lead another trip to Israel this spring. That would have been number 11. We are not going there as a group. I seriously doubt I will take a large group again to that region. Too hard to predict where things will be in even a few months from now.
Here is a sober observation. I believe God holds leadership accountable for the decisions made that affect nations. James, the brother of Jesus, indicated to Paul that myriads (tens of thousands) of Jews were converts and following Yeshua. That was in the late 50's AD. A few short years later the leadership of the nation killed James and brought destruction upon themselves and the entire nation. Do not think that God will spare the USA, Canada or any other nation that forces "peace" upon Israel by taking away the Land. It will bring a curse upon us all. Fortunately God will look after his own through the chaos that follows (either rapture or protection here on earth). Jesus is coming soon! Maranatha!!

Re: Israel fears Obama heading for imposed Mideast settlement

I'm sure Israel must have considered the possiblility that a US administration may come along that is less supportive than the norm.

The US has since 1948 held up the nation of Israel, financially & militarily, and as such feels entitled to make certain demands of the Israelis, Im sure the US has had this planned all along, and will say, 'dont bite the hand that feeds you' to the Israelis. 'do as you're told, or else we call in all your debts'. they could ruin Israel practically overnight.

The Israelis need to rely on God, not the Americans, its likely this is God's way of forcing that issue.

Re: Israel fears Obama heading for imposed Mideast settlement

HSB, Tasarwen and I were wondering if you would be so "bold" as to go back w/ a large group, just a few days ago.

But something you said jogged my brain. We know that Israel has espoused a "Samson Option" in the past - "If we go, we're taking you all with us." At the end of it all, I wonder if they might consider something dramatic like that? I'm not at all sure that God would allow them to utterly self-destruct like that. He has a long and pretty well ingrained habit of saving a remnant. But at the same time - hummm. I wonder how that would play into prophesy?

Do you have any ongoing conversations w/ folks in Israel? I'm interested in knowing how the common Israeli citizen sees this shaking out...

(Ouch! This reminds me of posts #1 and #2 of the original Ezekiel 36 thread! )
