Psalm 36
5 Your love, O LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
O LORD, you preserve both man and beast.
7 How priceless is your unfailing love!
Both high and low among men
find refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.
10 Continue your love to those who know you,
your righteousness to the upright in heart.
11 May the foot of the proud not come against me,
nor the hand of the wicked drive me away.
12 See how the evildoers lie fallen—
thrown down, not able to rise!
We are told to meditate on God’s word.
I think of “chewing” on the word as an old timer friend told me as he sat outside in the evening. “Chewing” on the events of the day he would say.
In verse 5 as I chew I find God’s love and faithfulness just so high that I can not measure them, nor can I see the end of them out there somewhere. Must be lots of love and faithfulness. I surely hope so for me. I need lots of both.
Verse 6 brings to mind trips headed west across the flat plains of Kansas and eastern Colorado towards Denver. There comes a point where in the distance the horizon is not level anymore. There are bumps where the horizon was once level. And then an hour later there appears to be some mountains, Then an hour later you are sure there are some mountains ahead. Then hours later when you arrive in Denver, and before you stands an awesome mountain range full of colors and features. You know it is something huge that you can not begin to measure. MIGHTY MOUNTAINS. And how do we measure God? When we stand afar off from God we can not see the beauty as with the mountains. We have to be close enough to see and feel and experience what the mountains are like and what God is like. We have to go live in the mountains to experience them; the sights, the sounds, the smells, the breezes, the freshness. And we have to dwell in God to experience Him.
Amazing depth of relationship with God that David had as he expresses to us in the Psalms.
May God bless each one here today and this weekend as we go to worship our God who is greater than anything we can image.
