The End of MWM

Greetings all,

Letting everyone know that after somewhere around 28 years, when our annual hosting expires on 08/24/2025, Millennium Weekend Ministries we will not be renewing. Lack of interest for the past many years makes it clear to Esther and me that it does not make any sense to continue to keep the site running.

Many thanks to the handful of folks that have stuck it out with us. Perhaps very soon we shall all meet when we hear the glorious voice of our Savior calling us home to the Father's house. Certainly any who have placed their faith in Jesus Christ alone for their salvation, repenting with a "broken and contrite heart" (Ps 34:18 and 51:17) will find mercy and will indeed be caught up together to meet our Savior in the air.

What a glorious day that will be.

In Christ alone,
Andy

  • too old to get a job ???

Here in San Diego, looks like there are 100 people competeing to get every job.
I showed up to put in a resume this morning about 1030. Even though there were people filling out application forms there, I was told they were swamped with applicants for a few positions, I was not allowed to fill out an application.... they would not even let me use the restroom key........

I have seen companies do that over and over to me this last month........ as soon as they see I'm 60, I get the bums rush..... some not even very politely....... some of them are still advertising for help..........

I am able to get my car fixed, it will cost me $300 today....... part of its central nervous system needed to be replaced........its ignition rotor or something.......

Welcome to ageism! I will be 61 this year. It really is a detriment to even getting an interview. Illegal but it exists and is rampant. head:

I'm so sorry Lewis and GH. It's just not right...

I'm praying you find an employer that can see the wisdom you bring to the table.

      In His care,
      Tammy

This is ONE TRUE THREAD! I know that age discrimination is real. I'm only 57 ... I have been so very qualified for so many jobs in the past 7 years (come August 2) and yet haven't been hired. A couple times I was led to believe I had a particular job(s) only to find out the went to younger people and in some cases, less qualified. I know this because many job leads are via a friend or an acquaintance and so I get feedback as to who did get hired.

I have a friend, a brother in Christ, and we are working together to attempt to do something about that. We believe that there are many folks with many talents that have worked for larger companies most or all of their adult life and don't know how to market their skills in a way as to do their own business; e.g. welding, plumbing, auto repair, graphics, tutoring, carpentry, etc., etc. The end of large corps in a given area (Ohio/Michigan comes to my mind for some reason. ) does not have to mean the end of working.

Issachar, thinking that prayer is needed ...
The church is on Earth to save souls from a lost world, not to save the world from lost souls.

Man learns about history, not from history. To learn from history requires wisdom. Cut off from God, he has none, so history repeats; no new thing under the sun.

I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken - dylan

Psalms 122:8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

I have put in resumes for 3 govt jobs so far in the local cities...... searching their web sites every week........

lots of times the leadership in companies wont hire older experianced workers because they are afraid the new worker will shortly be competing for THEIR job!

This is a very real problem, I have a cousin who was layed off several
years ago at age 55, she did find one but only after seeing several jobs
go to younger people who had less or no qualifications.

Two more comments on this thread: I discovered this in my early 50's and it was one of the reasons I started my own business. Second, and very important, it is my understanding that less than 1% of jobs are filled by on line resumes--you have to go there and actually see a person. Let them see that you are not falling apart. I am regularly told that I look like I am in my 40's and people are surprised at my age. So, if I want a part time job in the medical field (heaven knows I am mega qualified) I am going to have to go and take my resume around. Is this right in his country? NO. Is it happening, as Sarah Palin would say, "You betcha!"

One of the big problems is the number of applicants per job. You can't even get in the door to see anyone in person. My hubby has had only one interview since he was laid off in mid-January. And now, there are all the recent college graduates.

I know this is awful but...have y'all gone and done some kind of "mini make-over" to try to take 10 years off your look for the interview? I know no one should have to do that but, alas, as we're discussing here, age discrimination is rampant. They can't legally ask your age in an interview - only once they've hired you can they ask for your date of birth (again, legally - I know many do but they're not supposed to).

                    Just a thought...

...willing to start their careers for much less $$ than those of us with 20 years experience. Companies would rather pay little $$ for a degree and no experience than a little more $$$ for that experience.

Andy, they can pretty well guess your age by the date of your high school graduation--which is required on job aps. Also your college graduation date is a clue. And I don't need a makeover--everyone says I look great, in my 40's not 60! I dress very well, etc. It's the problem of getting to actually see a living human being in these places!

and premiums for company health care...... if the company hires older workers, the companies health insurance costs will go up.....which of course affects the profit the company makes
