  • Adobe, Concrete or Goodyear homes

It can be 100+ degrees outside, but you go inside and your almost cold.....
the old adobe walls 3 ft thick coated with white plaster works very well-- but who wants to make 100,000 mud bricks ??? the adobe homes are narrow, maybe 12 feet wide inside and U-shaped

today they make rammed earth homes.... set up plywood forms 3ft apart and pour dirt between and tamp it down,,,,or parallel concrete walls..... some have used stacks of tires and filled them with dirt........

I have seen several programs on HGTV, DIY, Discovery and History Channel that covered this. The finished homes are very efficient in many ways: economical, lowered utilities, comfortable, ease of maintenance, etc. And, they can be built just about anywhere.

Sounds like living in a cave to me.

still have some adobe homes here built in the 1700's ... very nice....
and yes, its almost like living in a U shaped single wide mobile home about 150 feet long with an interior courtyard....... the ancient Romans built the same way with an interior courtyard.....

I have seen some of these programs, also. I thought these houses were pretty neat. From what I remember, you could do a lot by creating different elevations. On top of that, they (the houses) were very energy efficient.
