So what does anyone think the US can do? IMHO, nothing. I have not heard of any ship movements, but it would surprise me greatly if we had a show of force off N Korea's coast.

We had ships with Standard-3's off the coast of NK during the missile test several weeks ago (where they flew over Japan). I have no idea where those vessels are now, though.
. . . It would not surprise me to learn that China sanctioned the test and missile launches in order to conduct a "press to test" on Obama. With only a press conference as Obama's response, I think China will militarily assert itself more actively in the months ahead, given Obama's lack of any retaliation against North Korea, and his growing international reputation as a naive leader who will not use force to back up his rhetoric.

For me, I believe that KJI is in "cahoots" with China. If testing from NK goes ok, then China will take over NK and begin firing missiles for real. Plus, China can add in the military force to their own and easily have more than the 200 million-man army prophesied in Revelation. Remember, they might have to defend several different borders, and that many men can easily replace those killed along the way to the middle east. jmho
May 27 (Bloomberg) -- North Korea threatened a military response to South Korean participation in a U.S.-led program to seize weapons of mass destruction, and said it will no longer abide by the 1953 armistice that ended the Korean War.
“The Korean People’s Army will not be bound to the Armistice Agreement any longer,” the official Korean Central News Agency said in a statement today. Any attempt to inspect North Korean vessels will be countered with “prompt and strong military strikes.” South Korea’s military said it will “deal sternly with any provocation” from the North.
N Koreas local nut also known as Kim Jong Il is going futher than usual
in his threats, of course you never know when he might snap and be
stupid enough to try and attack S Korea.
I do believe that the North Koreans perceive us as being very weak right now and that is what all of this is about. Hmmmm....for the life of me, I can't imagine why.
I am finding it interesting how many people today, in opinion pieces, are saying it is the beginning of WW3.
North Korea opened the door to show the world just how weak and bound the powers that be, really are.
Like someone else stated in this thread...other then sancitions, which these people ignore, what can they do but let a war begin???????? I don't think so.
It seems to me the world believes Iran is the key to all of this. It's been stated by Obama and all the ME leaders the way to weaken Iran is to divide Jerusalem. Sooner then later I suspect especially with all the talk of war in the ME. The last thing the Quartet and their allies in the ME want.
I still find it amazing they believe dividing Jerusalem will do it but that is what they all think. Big ole shrug.
They are great need of doing something to show power.

I haven't the foggiest idea why they would think that way.
"We assume that a dangerous brinkmanship, a war of nerves, is under way, but it will not grow into a hot war," the official told Tass. "Restraint is needed."
The Foreign Ministry often uses statements sourced to unnamed officials, released through official news agencies, to lay down its position on sensitive issues.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has condemned the North Korean tests but his foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, has warned the international community against hasty decisions
But of course the last statment is the most interesting...LOL
As to the Iranian problem: The characteristics of the North Korean crisis are similar to the Tehran crisis in many ways. Yet officials in Tehran are not the only ones who closely monitor current and future developments in East Asia – officials in Cairo, Riyadh, the Gulf states, and of course Israel are doing the same. Even if Israel proceeds to completely halt settlement construction, evacuate all unauthorized West Bank outposts, and present the Palestinians with far-reaching gestures, the US has little chance of succeeding in the Middle Eastern theater should it fail the North Korean test.
