  • N. Korea Last Night

North Korea delivered on its threat today, conducting a second nuclear test that angered governments around the globe. The country also apparently test-fired a short-range missile today, the White House said. Japan has called for an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council.

Obama and his advisors need to sit down with KJI, and find out why he's mad at the world.....

Is this the test of Obama, within 6 months, that Biden predicted?

Yes, and let's not forget to threaten all the way up to the dreaded sanctions.

Russia's Defence Ministry confirmed that an atomic explosion took place in northeastern North Korea. Russian officials said the blasts yield was 10 to 20 kilotons, which is comparable to the bombs that flattened Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

One concern is that Iran may be secretly funding North Korea’s nuclear weapons development program, and receiving the test data. If that is the case, military commanders and engineers in Tehran may be far closer to testing — or using — their own nuclear warheads than is currently believed in the West to be the case. The Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff said over the weekend that Iran is between one and three years away from having operational nuclear weapons. That could be right, but what if it’s sooner? This very question is what has Prime Minister Netanyahu so concerned, and why he is actively considering the possibility of a preemptive strike against Iran if international efforts to stop Iran’s nuclear program doesn’t bear fruit fast.

It appears that North Korea has no fear or respect for the US or the UN
security council, they know that they are not going to take any real
action. The big danger here is not if but when one of these missiles
malfunctions and lands over land and civillians are killed.

That depends upon which/whose land it lands on.

Good point, I was thinking of it landing on Japan, S Korea or one of
the smaller islands in the area. I guess if it were to hit one of our
allies we might have to take some meaningfully action.

So what does anyone think the US can do? IMHO, nothing. I have not heard of any ship movements, but it would surprise me greatly if we had a show of force off N Korea's coast. We cannot take unilateral military action against North Korea without KJI retaliating on South Korea with his 1 million man army and his chemical and biological weapons, not to mention dropping 500,000 artillery shells on Seoul in one hour. I think the only thing the US can do is somehow get China, who is N Korea's primary supplier of food and fuel, to put pressure on them. But what's in it for China?

It would not surprise me to learn that China sanctioned the test and missile launches in order to conduct a "press to test" on Obama. With only a press conference as Obama's response, I think China will militarily assert itself more actively in the months ahead, given Obama's lack of any retaliation against North Korea, and his growing international reputation as a naive leader who will not use force to back up his rhetoric.

                            WLNF,

                            That's an incredibly astute observation.

China has been chomping at the bit in order to be the next global superpower.
I think that we'll see the demise of Taiwan within a year or two. (along with most of the yellow sea)

Here is a link to a thread discussing artillery bombardment of Seoul. There are a number of pompous bureaucrats in the world. Kim is nuts no doubt, but he also blows a lot of smoke (I have to wonder if he inhales it too).
