  • Joel Rosenberg- commentary

    A good word.
Last weekend, I met with some evangelical Christian business leaders in Naples, Florida. They asked me what I thought the future held. I did not offer advice to win on Wall Street. But I did share with them a few thoughts from the Scriptures.

In Matthew 6:19-21, Jesus said: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where theives break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and where theives do not break in and steal; for where your treasure is, there is your heart also.” I asked the men, “If some of you have lost 30% to 50% of your assets, what are your plans going forward? What if another 30% to 50% of your wealth vanishes, or is confiscated in a massive new tax increase? Wouldn’t it be better to invest some or all of that wealth in the kingdom of God now, while you still have it?” My point wasn’t to raise funds for any non-profit I’m associated with. My point is that it appears the Lord is shaking our country and purifying His Church. He is forcing us all to reconsider what we value, where our treasure is, where our hearts are. He is preparing us to see Him face to face. And when we see Him, there will be a day of accounting. He will ask us what we did with the resources He entrusted to us. What, then, shall we say?

    And from, yes Jerry Golden...
America, Europe and much of the world have had their wilderness experience and they have been tested three ways, the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye, and the pride of life. Unlike that of the blessed Messiah they have miserably failed all three tests and now is the time for repentance and there seems to be none coming forth therefore judgment is on the way. It will be harsh and without mercy. For those who have known prosperity and easy living but still complained that they wanted more while the majority suffered hunger and disease will now suffer hunger, fear and deep despair. For those who satisfied their flesh, greed and pride with gluttony and sexual exploits will find no peace in the misery that lies ahead. God has given many over to a reprobate mind and their suffering will be long and terrible. For those who God has given mercy they will have but a short time to accept that mercy and the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) is the only way out for them. They will not find in Him an end to their search to satisfy their hunger but an inward joy knowing that eternity and favor with God through the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus) awaits them.

        Re: Joel Rosenberg- commentary

I'm blessed with doing 4, 19 hour days in a row starting yesterday so I am staying off here as the work (sound engineer) requires a lot of concentration most of the time. But I had to jump on here a sec and say that at least what is quoted in SAT's posts is very welcome by me. ...... fwiw.

Issachar, believing that treasures in heaven cannot be corrupted.
The church is on Earth to save souls from a lost world, not to save the world from lost souls.

Man learns about history, not from history. To learn from history requires wisdom. Cut off from God, he has none, so history repeats; no new thing under the sun.

I saw ten thousand talkers whose tongues were all broken - dylan

Psalms 122:8 For my brethren and companions' sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

          Hi Iss
I guess today the thoughts that go through my head ...
The Lord is coming like a thief....
I wonder what I will be thinking about or doing when He comes? Will they be worthy of Him?
Will my hands and spirit be up in praise?
Please God let me be doing your will. Give me the stength to be giving and not taking. Trusting and not fretting.

We can be thankful He won't be coming as a thief to those of us watching.

1 Thessalonians 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

I do hope others read the rest of Joel's commentary. It was quite good.

Good choice of verses. It brought me to read the whole chapter. I hope no one minds...

1But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

2For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

3For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

4But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

5Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

6Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober.

7For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

9For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

10Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

11Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

                  12And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

13And to esteem them very highly in love for their work's sake. And be at peace among yourselves.

14Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men.

15See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men.

                  16Rejoice evermore.

                  17Pray without ceasing.

18In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

                  19Quench not the Spirit.

                  20Despise not prophesyings.

21Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

22Abstain from all appearance of evil.

23And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

24Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

It's interesting, that chapter really doesn't indicate watching in the sense I suspect most think. It seems to be more" be ready" by ...... then watching.
                    Watching that you are ready????
