Ex-U.S. diplomat testifies on behalf of Holy Land
A former U.S. diplomat described the effects of the harsh Israeli military rule on the Palestinian people as he testified Tuesday as the defense's first witness in the Holy Land Foundation trial, a former Richardson charity accused of supporting terrorists.
Edward Abington, a retired U.S. consul general in Jerusalem who is a former advisor for the Palestinian Authority, described how the Israelis bulldoze Palestinian homes with little or no notice, usually claiming they were a security risk. He testified that the Israelis also forced Palestinians to endure hundreds of military checkpoints, making the transporting of goods to market difficult.
“The net effect has been to severely damage the Palestinian economy.” Mr. Abington testified.
